Does anyone know any inexpensive, quality hotels in Atlantic City?
I am looking to spend a weekend there and am interested in an inexpensive hotel (something reasonable but not a whole in the wall) that is possibly close to the boardwalk and/or casinos.

Depending on when you go, some of the casinos actually give good rates. I saw Caesar’s give a rate of $80 a night some nights. My advice that is if you cant get a good rate in a hotel along the boardwalk. stay in a neighboring town. You really dont want to deal with the other hotels in AC. Besides the casinos, theres a Days Inn, and I believe a Quality Inn near the Tropicana along the boardwalk. There is also a Sheraton near the convention center and train station.

Most of the inexpensive hotels near the casinos and boardwalk are frightening. They are really working to clean up the city but they have a way to go. The casino hotels are very nice and you might be able to find a good deal.
Before we were familiar with AC we booked an Econo Lodge by the casinos and it was awful.
Just do your research and don’t book for the price….I know there are good deals on priceline and hotwire….but in a lot of cases you get what you pay for.

Go to http://www.hotwire.com/hotel/ and type in Atlantic City. I just did it and they showed 3 hotels for less than $50! And these aren’t dumps. Hotwire and Priceline are the best ways to get great rates. I just got a 4 star hotel in Chicago for 3 nights for $89/night on Priceline. Cant beat that!

PS: I wasn’t aware of the safety concerns that the other posters have brought up. They have some very good advice. You can use Hotwire to find a great hotel in most places but there you may want to stay at a large hotel.
