Advice on accommodation in Seattle?
Me and my room mate (we are both 21 from San Diego) to visit Seattle for a few days the next few weeks. We already have a good idea of what we want to see (Pikes, EMP, Olympic Sculpture Park, etc.), but I wanted some advice on where you live. We would like to spend as little money as possible, and are not afraid of a little “diversity”. We try to have a good place in the Ballard, Greenwood, Crown Hill neighborhood, university, or somewhere in the vicinity of underground services, with relatively easy access to find themselves, the city and the water in front. I have a pretty good deal (approx. $ 70) at a Days Inn near Aurora on N 85th Street, near Greenwood Park Would it be easy to find a subway to get us around the city, in proximity? And I would pass a whole day or is this in the free ride area? I also could not have information online youth hostels, there are no reliable hostels in the city and they are safe? “I would take any advice about the local values for the food and me (good things about Dick and Burgers have the Alki fish and chips W. in Seattle) is one, I’m basically looking for a local perspective that goes a little deeper than the Frommer’s lead. So my questions, suggestions or general tips else be awesome. Thanks! BTW we are on a tight budget and in Seattle from 18 to 21, but really just a room on the night of 19 Thanks again! Ok cool, I had Red Mill in my notes, I’m glad you vouched for her, and I was looking through past responses and Skylar, the Seattle top answerer suggested Mr. Gyros but citysearch Reviews have been mixed so far as portion size and price, you know, whether it be good? It is super close to the motel so I thought we would check it out. .

I would check out the University Inn on Roosevelt Way. It’s on bus lines that take you right into the city, and since the university business is mostly done for the year, there probably won’t be as many people staying there and rates might be lower. (Another tip: I used to work at a resort motel and I can tell you that rates are ALWAYS negotiable when there are empty rooms. Don’t be afraid to ask for a lower price than you are initially quoted.)
Dicks and Alki fish and chips are good options, but won’t be especially easy to get to by bus since there is not lodging that would be on a convenient bus line to those places.
The places you mention as possibilities to stay are all outside the “ride free” zone, but buses are not expensive in Seattle so I wouldn’t worry about it too much since you’ll only be here a few days. There is lodging within the free zone, but I’m not sure you could get anything in your desired price range, aside from the Green Tortoise hostel (and hosteling isn’t always a great experience for first timers to a city).

You are not going to find a decent hotel in Seattle for that kind of money. I always stayed in Downtown at the Weston or the Paramount or Marriott on Alaska Way Or the Edge water on the Pier. But for those hotels I mentioned you will be paying 200.00 a night or more depending on the days and what major events are going on in Seattle when you are there.

I know of that Days Inn, I used to live in that neighborhood. It’s kind of a dumpy area, not sure what the hotel itself is like, but it’s probably fine. That’s a great area to catch the Metro bus. It runs regularly well into the evening. I don’t think that’s within the free ride area, but I think you’ll be within the first zone, just call them and verify. Dick’s Burgers is great, so is Burgermaster at Greenwood and 105th (try their Swedish Pancakes for breakfast!), and Red Mill Burgers on Greenwood & I think 65th? I always liked the restaurants on Capitol Hill (east of downtown) and the U District (45th St.) is always diverse and fun.
