Look on trip adviser, the formule 1 has a terrible reputation, sleeps 3 to a room, and has shared toilet facilities. Its a French company and that way of operating is popular on the continent, but its not good for a drunken Saturday night in the UK. £33 per room per night is a good deal, but you get what you pay for
You can get rooms for £66 per night at the Premier Inn Albert Dock, but try the Youth Hostel (you don’t have to be a youth) its only a couple of years old, and the breakfasts are supposed to be really good.

The Albert Dock and Kings Dock area is very nice for tourists and only a short walk from the city centre – you will find the usual hotels there such as Campanile and Formule 1.

Cheap good hotels quite thin on the ground these days – most are getting quite pricey.
The Premier inn Ibis Dolby and Holiday Inn all cheap and cheerful.
You might get a good deal at the Malmaison or Crowne Plaza.
Whatever you do – DONT stay at the Adelphi no matter how cheap it is.

There are a number of very reasonable hotels on the Dock Road, ie, Formule 1, Ibis, Premier Inn (Albert docks area) etc.. Just do a search on Expedia, for the good deals..
