Avoid Aeroflot always, specially when going from US to Belarus via Moscow?
4I had a ticket going from NY to Minsk, Belarus via Moscow. My infant child is a US citizen, who had a visa to Belarus. The flight was supposed to arrive in terminal F in Moscow and depart from terminal B to Minsk. The travel agency got a visa to Belarus for my infant. Nobody told me that the infant would need a visa to Russia just to travel from one terminal to another. I called Moscow airport and spoke to a Russian counsilor there. He told me that I will be able to buy a $50 visa for the baby at the airport in Moscow to get to my flight. However, I wasn’t allowed to board the flight to Moscow in NYC. I was told that the infant had to have a visa to go from one terminal to another. Aeroflot team called some guards at the border.
In addition, my tickets were not refundable.
While waiting to solve this problem, which was never solved I heard that Aeroflot charges $100 for any extra luggage starting with as little as 1 kg. Also if you are connecting to another flight in Moscow, the luggage limits are much lower for your next internal flight. And they make you pick up your luggage and transport it to another terminal in Moscow.
Another person told me that in Moscow many Russians holding dual passports get into trouble, even though the laws are vague. The funny part is that one needs to get a tax certificate from Moscow to exit Russian citizenship. It takes 3 months to get an appointment with the Consulate in NY.
The bottom line, do not fly aeroflot! Go through Vienna, Frankfurt, Warsaw instead.
I flew with them in 2001, it was dirty, smoky, with many drunk people. My fellow passenger spilled alcoholic beverages on me all the time. Without mentioning his harassing remarks to me.
Aeroflot or BMI for Armenia?
1I am flying to Armenia in Summer, but I have difficulty choosing between Aeroflot or BMI. I traveled to Armenia on Aeroflot last Summer and it seemed to be alright except the long 5 hour layoff in Moscow and the horrible attitude of the Russian crew. I have never used BMI, but I heard that they are notorious in loosing luggage and considering that my layoff in London will be only 1:45 hours long, I am kind of hesitant to choose that route thinking that it is not enough time to have my stuff transferred in London from one plane to another. . . . not counting the possible delay through air traffic in London. I think that Moscow layoff time of 5 hours is more than enough, but I hate to wait that long and would have preferred ony a 1:45 hours obviously. Also, I have to pay $1387 to fly on Aeroflot but only $1200 to fly on BMI. Last year in Armenia, I was asked which air company I am flying back with to LA, and I was told that the route through London is the worst, but I was not told why. I am also considering the safety of the carriers, so I would really appreciate if you could advise me mostly on BMI as I do not have any experience with it. Most Armenians in LA use Aeroflot to fly to Armenia or some kind of a reason. I chose Aeroflot last year because of its cheap cost, but BMI seems cheaper this year. Thanks in advance.
P. S. Everytime I have flown on Aeroflot, I have promised myself to never fly with them again! LOL But BMI’s luggage situation des not make things easier on me either! I’m taking my super cute clothes wth me, so the last thing I need is to loose my expensive cothing during my 2 month vacation.

Help! Aeroflot Moscow Transit (New Terminal D) problem?
4Five people (inc. me) are flying HKG-SVO-CDG v. v. in mid-February, after SVO T3 (D) opens officially. However, the problem is mainly with visas. A member of our travelling group holds a passport-type that requires Russian visa, while the rest of us hold visa-free. The dillema is due to the opening of T3, the SVO-CDG flight will be in T3 while HKG-SVO is T2. According to DL and other sources, visa is not required for not exiting the airport (stay within transit area) but is required for moving from T1 to T2. However, on the other hand, Aeroflot says in a press release that it operates a transit bus between those terminals, but I am unsure if it is considered exiting transit area? ticketing for aeroflot if you purchase it on the www. aeroflot. com website?
1how do you receive the actual tickets if you purchase a flight on aeroflot website? I’m booking a ticket from Rome, Italy to Beijing, China. After buying the ticket from www. aeroflot. com website, it says on the confirmation page that i have to go to a local aeroflot ticketing office to pick up paper tickets. I’m not sure what any of this means. if someone has traveled a similar route than mine or have any information on this i would greatly appreciate it. Would it be possible if i stop by the airport to pick up the tickets? And if so, are there any deadlines? Please help me. Thank you.
What’s the best luggage on the market for travelling light in a developing country?
2Thinking of a medium-sized backpack for getting on and off buses, in and out of taxis.
Do you have a favourite piece of luggage-wear?
