Went to a Rattler den, but saw no rattlers. But we were surprised to see garters, they were supposed to be gone in early september.

I believe the snake is actually a checkered garter.

nope we don’t have any checkered garters here, just short- head garters and common garters

Hmmm… I’ve never seen Sirtalis with markings like that though. I’ve seen them with a checkered pattern, but never so pronounced.
