If you fully understand renters insurance and feel comfortable with the package you’ve selected online then it’s fine. However if you don’t’ know much about insurance and just find a cheap price I would call that company or find an agent that can answer your questions and make sure you are properly covered.

I agree with mbrcatz…check out who currently has your car insurance, get their price. Then check out an independent agent since they can quote with multiple companies for the best coverage at the best price. Plus it’s always nice to talk to someone face to face.

Purchasing renters insurance from the company that has your car insurance, is the best bet. Besides that, if you don’t know what you’re buying, you’re best off using an agent.

You can make enquirers with an agent and get the quote. You can also try for an online quote, find out the options, compare and review the coverages and call on the insurance company to verify and answer any of your queries.

I’m always biased to agents, but if you call someone in customer service at one of those places, odds are you’ll get a licensed agent to answer your questions. They won’t be very impartial, but they’re an agent.

As an agent, I probably wouldn’t write your renters insurance unless you let me write the auto as well. There’s no money in it.
