What is your favorite ski resort in Colorado and why?

Question: What is your favorite ski resort in Colorado and why?
Around the I-70 area, I know Telluride, Silverton etc are great but they are far away. Personally my favorite is Breckenridge because they have the best above treeline skiing in my opinion.

I know we’re both gonna get some flack on this, mostly from the Vail people, but I too favor Breck. I’m not sure if its something in particular, it just seems to “suit” me.

Though I can’t deny the allure of the Vail back bowls.

My favorite’s Winter Park because i) the skiing’s brill ii) it’s so easy to get to by the train from Denver for a day’s skiing Saturday or Sunday.

A-Basin. The terrain is killer and the high altitude means that I don’t have to blow a lot of cash in order to catch a beer buzz.

I agree with you that Breckenridge is a great resort. The area above treeline is terrific, but I have been up there on days where it was so windy that I had to get into a tuck just to avoid being pushed back up hill. There’s nothing more miserable than being exposed to a winter storm above treeling. Plus, the town itself is pretty fun. Not a bad place.

That being said, my favorite is Steamboat. I lived there through high school. I always found it to be an endlessly entertaining mountain with lots of terrific runs, and plenty of places to get away from the crows (plus, they have a lot of porcupines that live in the trees. Always amusing to watch some idiot have one of those land on them. There’s a reason those runs are out of bounds, folks!). Plus, I love the town of Steamboat. Great stuff to do in both winter and summer. Terrific scenery. Great locals. If I ever move back to Colorado, that’s where I’m going.

Winter Park is f-ing terrific too.
