Question: cruise insurance?
i was wondering if travel or cruise insurance is worth the money if your planning to drive to fla to get to ship. i have heard thats its not worth the money what do you all think? thanks every one .

depends on the time of year…you could STILL get delayed due to weather conditions, traffic, etc. Also depends on the cost of the vacation….wouldn’t you spend an extra $ 75 on a $ 3000 vacation?

Travel Insurance is worth getting but don’t buy it from the cruise line. It is expensive and there are many benefits either missing or have low cover.

Always buy insurance from the third party insurance company. Check Squaremouth as the site compares all the policies out there.

Its a must you never know what could happen. Say your car breaks down, or the ship has problems or you lose your luggage, and everything or you need medical treatment their is just so many things that could happen and I’d rather be safe then sorry.

Yes, I buy the insurance. Mostly because of the medical aspect. If we cancel before we leave, we’ll get our money back, but if we’re sick on board…the cost to visit the doctor on a ship makes an emergency room visit look cheap. I know the insurance covers lost luggage, but so does your airline ticket. Home owners insurance, or even some credit cards cover lost items or some insurance areas, but the travel insurance will cover the cruise, medical & dental, luggage, cancellation, and the air evacuation or ambulance ride. Check with you personal health insurance carrier to see if they cover visits to a doctor if you’re leaving the US.

I also get it incase someone in the family gets sick. If grandma goes into the hospital, and we’re cancelling, we get our money back from the insurance. I think it’s money well spent.

Its not worth the money unless you have booked a cruise during the hurricane season in the Caribbean. We drive to Florida for all of our cruises leaving from there and we usually drive most of the way to arrive a day ahead of the departure and then have just a couple hours to get to the port on cruise day.

If we go outside of the country and/or or go to a departure ports, like Bracelona, or Dover, that involves several plane and/or train or bus changes, then we get insurance. However, we always use private insurance with travelex (www.travelex.com). Their rates are cheaper and cover more than the cruise lines cover.

I always recommend Travel Insurance to my Clients.
Even without Air you never know whats gonna happen.
If for some reason you need to cancel the Cruise you will get a refund of you purchase package minus the Insurance money.
It’s not a good ideal to travel anywhere without purchasing the insurance, if you were to get hurt, sick, or injured while on vacation and you did not purchase the Insurance you would be on your own and that my friend can be very expensive.

Put it this way. I have a client who fell and broke her hip before they got to the first port of call. She had to be evacuated by medical ambulance to Miami for surgery. Cost? $ 18,000, IF she had not had insurance. And that’s just for the medivac, add to that the surgery itself, accommodations for her family while she recovers, etc.

I would not pay for a cruise without it. There’s always the threat of Hurricane. Or you could get sick. Or there could be a family emergency. Or you just may need to reschedule. Insurance only has a bad rap because you feel like you wasted money if you don’t use it, but if you need it, you’ll be very happy to have it. And it really is not that expensive for what it covers.
