All hotels booked in Scottsdale. Where should I stay?

Question: All hotels booked in Scottsdale. Where should I stay?
I’m traveling to Phoenix January 19-25 with my wife. We’re thinking of relocating and want to see if we would like living in the Phoenix area. Others have said that Scottsdale is the place to stay to get a feel for living in Phoenix. The only problem is that every hotel in and around Scottsdale is either booked or outrageously priced. Anyone have any advice on other places to stay? And does anyone know what is going on in Scottsdale that caused all of the hotels to fill??? Thanks for your help…

Can you change your dates? that is peak season.

Anyway, I liked Mesa and Tempe areas, and Chandler and Gilbert.

Or Goodyear on the west side.

Scottsdale is very nice but is always over priced.It’s hot spot and very trendy it also home to many well know stars. I love Mesa and Tempe and Chandler has grown on in past few years. It can be hard to find a good job in AZ depending your education. The job market can also be shaky. Non skilled worker get paid crap because there are so many of them. No sure if this matters but there are part of Phx and subs that are little Mexico’s(very little is in English not even on billiards). AZ also has pretty big drug culture so if kind of stuff bugs keep that in mind. I just moved after living there for about 10 years. When we did live there I always live in Mesa(that’s where my husband was rasied and born) and I seem to always end up with a job in downtown Phx. witch may not seem like a big deal you, until drive during rush hour it can take over 2 hours depending on how the freeways are.

i’m not sure why alot of hotels are booked, but i did see a bunch of huge tents getting put up at the TPC…maybe its the FBR open. but just down the street in north phoenix, theres a huge hotel/resort (see link below). its about 5-10 mins from north scottsdale on the 101.

Anything that has “Scottsdale” attached to it automatically carries a premium. I live just to the west of Scottsdale, in the NE Phoenix/Paradise Valley area. There is an Embassy Suites nearby on Paradise VIllage Parkway, and a few other hotels nearby. You will pay a little less, and your still in a good neighborhood.

As cheesy as this sounds, what about a bed and breakfast?

Depending on your price range, I would try checking out the J.W. Marriott. Not sure on their availabilty but it’s a pretty nice resort. If you are looking in Scottsdale like mentioned during peak season, it will be a bit expensive.

You could always look for hotels in Glendale, Tempe, Phoenix.. the surrounding cities of Scottsdale. You can always get the feel of Scottsdale by driving to old town and checking out the night life, art galleries, etc. It also depends on what kind of environment you’d like to live in. Do you guys have any children? For a more quiet neighborhood, I’d suggest a more outskirt city, Tempe is more of a college town, Scottsdale is high-end…you get the idea.

I prefer Northern Scottsdale because its a nice community and more away from the more busy central Scottsdale. It’s not too far but not too close if that makes sense.

jan 13-21 is the annual Barrett-Jackson Classic car and rock & roll auction in Scottsdale the largest auto auction in the US. for hotels try Tempe Chandler Or Gilbert nice communities with plenty of housing stock and shopping and restaurants and entertainment

My last trip to Scottsdale, I stayed at the Resort Suites, just down the road from the Fairmont Princess and had a great time…check them out, they have studio, one and two bedroom units.

Could be related to all the bowl games going on, I think the big golf thing usually happens around now too. Not really sure. BUT if outrageously overpriced isn’t your thing, then you don’t want to see SNOTS-dale anyway. It is not typical Phoenix, just lots of people with too much money all trying to outdo one another. For some better areas, try Tempe, East Mesa, or Ahwatukee (reasonable to live in Northern areas, gets more expensive the closer you get to the mountain). Tempe is just south of Scottsdale so if that is your friend’s area you’ll only be 10-minutes away. If you really want to get a feeling for what it is like living in Phoenix, stay in East Mesa and drive into town each day. That’s how most people do it to get affordable housing and driving here s**ks, lousy City planners.
