If you had the choice between Australia and New Zealand, where would you travel?

Question: If you had the choice between Australia and New Zealand, where would you travel?
I am traveling to either Australia or New Zealand this July for volunteering and “adventure tour”.

Australia trip includes:

Cairns
Byron Bay
Sydney
Airlie Beach
Fraser Island

New Zealand:
Waitormo
Nelson
Wellington
Franz Josef
Queenstown

Just wondering if you’ve been to any of these places (or know someone who has) and know anything about the weather, beaches, nightlife, and sightseeing/cool things to do in these places. Thanks!

i would DEFINITELY choose Australia. i went there and went to Sydney and Fraser Island. BEAUTIFUL country. simply amazing. i would choose Australia. i would LIVE there if i could!!!!!

New Zealand is much more compact and has some literally breathtaking scenery.
Waitomo- I am assuming you are going into the caves to see glow worms. Never been but is supposed to be pretty neat.
Nelson – I live nearby. Depends on where you are going. Lots of lovely beaches around with golden sand eg Kaiteriteri, but thats more summer. A few wineries, lots of craft.
Wellington – a lot of people love Wellington. I think its ok, again it depends on what you are going for!
Franz Josef- the West Coast in general has stunning scenery and the glaciers are pretty neat. I like Franz more as I worked there for a summer in the information center. It should be drier in the winter as it does rain a lot there. lots of wonderful bush walks. Lake Matheson near Fox Glacier is fantastic on a sunny day with amazing refelection of the mountains.
Queenstown, despite being touristy, it has a stunning setting and has lots of things to do.

Hi

I have not been to New Zealand sorry but I have driven around Australia
Cairns is really nice and very good for accessing the Great Barrier Reef
Byron is a very surfy place and Hippy types love it
Airlie is lovely too and a good base with which to see the beautiful Whitsunday Islands
Fraser is the biggest Sand Island in the world and Lake Mckenzie is menat to be awesome (this is my to do list)
Sysdney is Sydney a great city with so many sights and things to do

Which ever you choose enjoy it and take loads of pics – then the memories will be with you forever

I don’t think the two can be compared. They are both beautiful in their own unique way. If you want skiing then pick NZ because its snowfields are more accessible
NZ is friendly, but so is Aus.

If it was in the summer months I’d recommend Australia but as it’s during the Winter it’s a golden opportunity to see the one and only unlike anything else you can imagine New Zealand.

If you can put up with all the Aholes, go for Australia, but if you want to see natural at its pristine condition, New Zealand is the place to be.

Heads up, it’s going to be cold there in July, so bring a little extra to wear.
