Question: What is the best global/international medical insurance?
Hi. What is the most comprehensive individual-policy medical insurance that includes prescription drug coverage? I want to teach English in China someday and it depresses me that I won’t be able to retain my job’s medical insurance for USA coverage. I’d have to purchase my own. I’m afraid that I might get a plan that won’t cover important things if I get sick. Posting this under China as I know there are lots of expatriats on this part of Y/A….
PS. I understand that many schools will provide some sort of insurance in China; my main concern is coverage should I wish to obtain medical treatment back in the USA…. Thanks.
Again, my concern is NOT gettting treatment in CHINA but retaining the option of getting treatment in the USA if I choose to…

You need to purchase “China Medical Card”. In China’s hopistals, you must pay a deposit before you get any medical treatment even you are in danger. There are many insurance companies provide “China Medical Card” such as Zurich, ACE, Blue Cross & AIU.

Yes, when I moved to China, my medical coverage thru my company was also lost. However, I was able to find western standard coverage thru Zurich. You can also get really good coverage thry Metlife. You can select a program that covers you when you travel back to the States but eventually when you return to the States, you might as well get a new coverage.
My new employer in China pays for my medical insurance & I recommend you work with them to get them to pay for it.
