My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in San Francisco for mid October this year. What would be some appropriate hotels we could look at? What were the best features of the hotel you are recommending?

I tend to be partial to smaller boutique hotels in general and for a romantic occasion like a honeymoon they are the perfect solution.
Joie de Vivre is a California boutique hotel company that has several hotels in SF that would be a good choice. Depending on your budget and what features you want check out the following hotels on their web site
Hotel Vitale [especially the corner rooms with stunning views of the Bay Bridge and large soaking tubs in the room]
The White Swan Inn
Petite Auberge
Galleria Park
Hotel Kabuki

All hotels are a few blocks south of Market Street, between 2nd and 7th, near Moscone Convention Center and the Museum of Modern Art. Market Street hotels closer than 3 blocks from Union Square are listed under Union Square Hotel.
Even though hotels have apparently high rates, you may be able to get a room for less. We have paid $ 90 per night the $ $ $ $ Marriott using our money-saving strategies.
Rates per night (before 14% tax):
$ = less than $ 149
$ $ = $ 150 – $ 199
$ $ $ = $ 200 – $ 249
$ $ $ $ = over $ 250
