There’s great rafting places all over the United States, from the East to the Mid-West to the South and far West. Depends what kind of rafting you are looking for.
Rivers are rated on a scale of I to V (1 to 5) Class I being the easiest and mostly flat water and Class V being very challenging and for experience paddlers only. There is a Class VI but anything Class VI is un-runable.
Depends what area you live in, there’s something for everyone.
In Tennessee there is the Upper Pigeon River((I to IV), the Lower Pigeon River(I to III) and the Ocoee River (II to IV)
Depending on the difficultly of the river there are age restrictions.
In Pennsylvania where I am from we have the Lehigh River (Eastern PA), The Upper and Lower Youghiogheny River.( Western PA/ Western MD) The Lehigh has 3 different sections all varying from Class I to Class III and Lower Youghiogheny is a Class III+, IV while the Upper is Class V.
There are as well many rivers In Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina ect. All depends on location.
I recommend if it is the first time rafting and if there are children involved, I would go with a river that ranges from Class I to III.
Also keep in mind the age restrictions.
