Oh yeah!! Been white water rafting on the Snake River in Idaho in October….what a blast! Stayed in Jackson Hole Wyo. and took the plunge! One of the best times of my life.

The North GA Mountains/Eastern TN has the Ocoee River which is great for white water rafting. Loads of outfitters to choose from. Best time of year would be late spring (April/May) thru end of September

The New River in West Virginia is awesome and very inexpensive. About this time of year it’s not very crowded and the rapids are incredible. There’s also a portion called the Gauley that they “flood” once a year and there’s no better white water in the country!

Colorado on the Arkansas river has some of the best whitewater rafting in the U.S. My recomendation is to visit Gunnison, CO, its a small mountain town in the heart of the Gunnison valley about six hours from Denver. Its a college town and is fairly inexpensive, lots to do, lots to see, lots of rafting and a great place to get away from, another option is Buena Vista about 2 hrs from Denver, smaller, less people, but a little pricier…..Utah and Montana have good rafting too I hear, but never tried it my self…..As far as time of year, you may want to get going if you want to hit the rafting season, I wouldnt wait much past September, but CO doesnt usually have its first snow until late November, and CO in the fall is very cool and temperate.
