The Galapagos Islands – Travel Adventures

0

There is no other place like these islands on earth! This unmatched archipelago is a world away from the mainland, yet it also helps define the identity of Ecuador. The Galápagos Islands captured the imagination of Charles Darwin and provided the catalyst for developing his theory of evolution, forever altering the written history of life on earth. Ever since the old pirate days, when the islands were referred to as the Enchanted Islands, the Galápagos have lured the inquisitive traveler with an unearthly beauty uniquely its own.

Lying more than 600 miles off the west coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos have evolved in relative isolation. The wildlife is majestic and friendly, with very little fear of people. Don’t expect palm trees, white-sand beaches, and margaritas here. Expect jutting cliffs, volcanic moonscapes, emerald coves, and desert islands. Expect giant tortoises, swimming iguanas, friendly sea lions, and a rainbow of tropical fish.

The Galápagos are often called the Islands Born of Fire. The older exposed islands are approximately four to five million years old, created by underwater volcanoes that are still active today. Thus, the archipelago is relatively young and continues to evolve.

There are nearly 60 exposed landmasses that are currently named in the Galápagos. Thirteen are large islands, six are considered small islands, and more than 40 are islets. The largest is the 80-mile-long Isabela Island, with over half the archipelago’s total land area. All told, the islands extend for more than 267 miles. It would take quite some time to visit them all.

This guide profiles each of the islands, from Santa Cruz to Baltra to Floreana, with details on the wildlife, where to stay, tour companies and guides. Loaded with photos and maps.

Alaska Cruise and land tour- Is it better to book separate tours?

3

Question: Alaska Cruise and land tour- Is it better to book separate tours?
Any suggestions on who to deal with? We are thinking Princess Cruise followed with a 4 or 5 day land tour but are wondering if booking a separate land tour would be better than the cruise ship offers. We’re also looking for a great deal, money-wise. I’d like to fish the last day and bring fish home to the San Francisco bay area.

the excersions offered on the ship are priced higher then if you book them separatedly. i suggest u book your land tours separately. don’t book them on the ship. book them in advance thru the internet if possible.

are the Oceania cruises good Cruise ships?

1

Question: are the Oceania cruises good Cruise ships?
im going to the black sea and we ordered a huge room, is it worth it?
(oceania cruises)

Best answer:

Answer by tinkertoy
Oceania is not a line that typically operates in the US so its an unknown to me. But from what i see about it its a cruise line that has smaller ships, like the older versions of many cruise lines. and it provides better service because there are fewer passengers and a higher passenger to staff ratio. Most of the rooms on ship are premium rooms, a large rooms with balcony. That in itself is a premium feature on other cruise lines. My bet is you WILL get your money’s worth.

If you are entering Australia on a temporary visa or a temporary long stay visa and have UK citizenship then you are eligible to medicare for the duration of your visit under a Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement (RHCA).

Under this agreement you will be entitled to the following for any ill -health of injury requiring treatment while in Australia:

Free treatment as a public in-patient or outpatient in a public hospital
Subsidised medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
Medicare benefits for out-of-hospital medical treatment provided by doctors through private surgeries and community health centres.

Global Health Care Systems: A perspective on issues, practices and trends among OECD nations

0

We stand at a turning point in the history of global health care. AIDS, new pandemic diseases and environmental disasters are taking a toll on many of the world’s populations. At the same time, first world nations are dealing with an emerging centenarian demographic that is making unprecedented demands for long-term care. Access to health care services is the common thread that is uniting individuals, corporations and governments in their quest to sustain the health and well-being of their societies.

While health care systems have an immediate and direct impact on our lives, most of us find our understanding to be limited by personal experience. In this overview, emerging practices and trends that have a significant impact on economics and industry around the world are explored. Focusing in on the major players – the highly developed, industrialized countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) – you will find multiple viewpoints on what international health care systems do and do not provide and how they are managed.

Across the globe, the issues faced by patients, health care providers, funders and stakeholders are shaping the world that we live in.

I’m a diabetic moving to India for a year, how and where can I buy insulin there?

0

Question: I’m a diabetic moving to India for a year, how and where can I buy insulin there?
I am a business professional (type 1 diabetic) and considering moving to India for a year (or other DEVELOPING countries). Last fall I went to rural China and had to pay in cash for 6 months worth of Insulin and carry it around (sometimes without refrigeration). My thing always holding me back from long term trips is how to get my supplies.

Does anyone know of a mail order supplies company for business people abroad(especially outside the western world)?

I’m sure there may be retired persons living abroad that get insulin (especially in the developing world) …. How do they get it?

There are also private hospitals abroad, but the problem in Asia, is there is a lot of fake medicine mixed in.

Also what is the best travel insurance (medical evacuation, and general coverage) for diabetics?

Any advice?

Thanks,

Scott
