Tour in Tibet: Road to the Heavenly Lake

0

A famous Tibetan saying goes: “Walking around a mountain in the Year of the Horse and walking around a lake in the Year of the Goat.” And 2003 is the Year of Goat on the Tibetan Calendar. It is said, “walking around the lake once during the Year of the Goat produces spiritual benefits equal to those attained by walking around the lake 12 times in any other year.” Therefore, Namtso Lake has become the most popular holy site for pilgrim worship. There are two special groups of pilgrims who come to the lake to worship. One of them is constituted by lamas and nuns led by two living Buddhas. The other one includes three people: Yangpei, Geming and Dunzhu. They use handmade yak-leather rafts to circle the lake. The whole process is so dangerous that it’s considered brushing shoulders with death.

What will happen when India tours Australia in December?

Question: What will happen when India tours Australia in December?
Lately Indian cricket team has been encountering tremendous difficulty playing with Australia at home itself. My fear is that when India visits Australia, it may end up as whitewash with heavy defeat margins in both ODIs and tests. Scores of 350+ would have to be chased by India and test defeats would end up as 3 digit and an innings defeat. Is this scenario real or its all unnecessary worrying? What is your opinion?

Alaska cruise/vacation with senior citizens and teenagers?

Question: Alaska cruise/vacation with senior citizens and teenagers?
We’re planning to go on a cruise to Alaska in June/July with 14 and 17 year olds kids and 75 year old grandparents. Grandfather will have trouble if there is too much walking.
We are looking at the Holland America Line. Not sure how that compares with other lines.
We’d like to go inland to Denali if possible, but not sure if that would be too hard or too much extra time.
Any info on if there are a number of teenagers that go on these cruises?
Any personal experiences you can share?

An alaska Cruise is the utmost! The scenery, the wildlife, and the time together.

Southeast Aalska (most folks refer to it as the Inside Passage) is a very different and unique part of Alaska, and with your plans to go into Alaska’s interior; you are paring with a great opportunity.

The Alaska trips tend to be geared more for the older crowd, once the younger set sees all that Alaska is, and they realize their cell phones really do work in the North, well things work themselves out. The cruise demographics are changing, and visitor profiles are changing with them.

Holland America is geared more toward the traditional cruising client. Princes is another good choice for cruising up North.

The difference is really in the size of the ship and number of passengers. Holland sails with three class of ships with passenger loads equating to: 1200, 1400, and 1800 for the largest ship. Princess steps up to 2800 passengers.

Each gives you a very high quality product.

For the Interior, especially Denali, make sure you look at going to the deepest part of the park, Kantishna. It is the end of the park road, offering great views of the mountain (weather permitting), and of course critters!

I am including the web site for my company which offers all of the above. We also offer a very inclusive program; meals, attractions, and much more. We also host travel seminars innearly all parts of the United States, and offer a free DVD for the asking showing what, and how we do things.

As an Alaska travel proffessional, I can assure you, you are headed in the right direction. Feel free to call our “800″ number, and they will forward my personal cell number should you have any specific questions. We also provide references on request from previous travellers.

Thanks for thinking of Alaska!

Travelling to Canada for 3 months – where can I get health insurance to cover me?

Question: Travelling to Canada for 3 months – where can I get health insurance to cover me?
Hi…I’m leaving Australia shortly to spend at least 3 months in Canada. I will have no health insurance in Canada unless/until I spend 3 months in a province I think. I’ve looked into travel insurance and most only seem to cover accidents etc, but I want one that covers health generally, so if I get sick, I can see a Doctor.
Any idea where I can get this?
Thanks

Go to an insurance agent where you are. Thera are several International Health Insurance available. Must buy it in your country, since it is for a short stay.

Florence? Stay at the Ambassadore.
Venice? Stay at the Residenza Laguna, an excellent B&B. A few yards from the vaporito stop on the Grand Canal. See the website.

The Ambassadore is right across from the train station. Very safe. Great for day trips to Pisa, Sienna, etc.
Wonderful place to stay but reserve a double room never a single.

BTW, forget tours, buy Rick Steves tour book, and read it, he’s right on the money. You’ll get to see much more than using a tour bus. In Bologna, Rome, and Florence buy the double decker bus tour the red and blue line. Hop on and off 24 hours for 20 euros. Buy it on the bus. See every site first from the bus then go back to selected sites by taxi. Or subway in Rome. Be wary of people selling advance bus tickets. For Florence, buy Uffizzi museum tix online as well as Academie tix to see David. Or you may not get inside. In Milan, you need to buy tix for the Last Supper 6 months in advance. Buy them online. The Vatican sell tix only through authorized agents but your hotel concierge will get them. Go early, even with tix there’s a line at the Vatican. Mail all your postcards from the Vatican post office, Italy’s postal service usually steals the postage from your cards. Buona viaggia. BTW, almost everyone speaks English except taxis and some store clerks. You’ll have no problem getting around. Just keep the hotel’s card in your pocket. Show a taxi driver the card and he will take you home.

ROLLO ON THE RHINE

0

If a man were to be raised in a balloon high enough above the continent of Europe to survey the whole of it at one view, he would see the land gradually rising from the borders of the sea on every side, towards a portion near the centre, where he would behold a vast region of mountainous country, with torrents of water running down the slopes and through the valleys of it, while the summits were tipped with perpetual snow. The central part of this mass of mountains forms what is called Switzerland, the eastern part is the Tyrol, and the western Savoy. But though the men who live on these mountains have thus made three countries out of them, the whole region is in nature one. It constitutes one mighty mass of mountainous land, which is lifted up so high into the air that all the summits rise into the regions of intense and perpetual cold, and so condense continually, from the atmosphere, inexhaustible quantities of rain and snow.
