Question: Medical / vacation / 401 k what other benefits employers(small business) offers? How to negotiate in interview?
I know Medical/ dental/ vision insurance & holidays, sick, vacation & 401k are some of benefits given by employers. What other benefits can one get? Will small business give tution rembursement? How can one negotiate more benefits if you already have told salary expectation & they seem happy to pay you that much without negotiation?

Most small employers don’t offer most of the first things that you mentioned. You can try to negotiate all kinds of things, but with small business they are not as likely to comply. There are things like: tuition reimbursement; gas reimbursement; vehicle reimbursement or car allowance; life insurance benefits; bonuses; cell phones; lap top computers; etc. Just remember that benefits do not come tax-free. Most of these ‘benefits’ the government will find a taxable base and it will add to your taxable income and be taxed.

obtaining health insurance AFTER injury?

Question: obtaining health insurance AFTER injury?
My brother is an international student in Halifax (NS, Canada). He graduated from his English course last week and so his health insurance expired then and there. He had three weeks till he goes back home to his country, however he got himself badly injured and had to undergo surgery for a broken cheekbone. The medical bill will be around $ 3000 and he has no health insurance to help him out.

We’re not sure how to appraoch this – $ 3000 is too much and we’re thinking: Is it possible to obtain temporary health insurance for him now to help us pay for his surgery???

Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Companies require up to a 12-month waiting period on pre-existing conditions.

And there’s no way you could get a company to pay for surgery that has already happened.

Check with the previous insurer and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act; there may be some COBRA coverage that could kick in.

Question: what is the cheapest medical insurance i can get in illinois?
i need insurance for my wife but i can’t afford to get it from my job because it would cost half my paycheck, like $ 700 a month.

that’s really expensive; what kind of plan are they offering? also, what type of coverage are you looking to get? The most affordable coverage with the lowest premiums may not be the best solution for you, depending on your needs – but you can still find some great plans that won’t reject you or your wife based on pre-existing conditions or previous denials from other companies. check out www.icanbenefit.com and look to see if they have options for your state

Do I need special insurance to drive through New York for in a 15 passenger van?

1

Question: Do I need special insurance to drive through New York for in a 15 passenger van?
We’re planning a trip to Lowell, Ma from Philadelphia, Pa in August. Our vehicle of preference would be a 15 passenger van. Upon calling and getting some quotes, they’re telling us that New York law requires liability insurance covering $ 5 million for vehicles that carry over a certain amount of passengers.
