Is it better to stay in the downtown area or the burbs (taking the metro to DC). Only there for a few days. Would like a safe place but don’t want to pay a lot.

We stayed at the residence inn capital district last year and loved it. I have 2 boys (7 and 11). walkable to most of the sites, could still jump on the subway if we needed to, and we felt plenty safe.

Question: Medical Advice Needed ASAP!?
Okay. I have a friend in Texas who has two hernias; a hiatal hernia and an umbilical hernia. He has liver difficulties and no one in the USA (not even Canada) will operate on him. I have heard of hospitals in different countries (Mexico, India) who will perform operations. I have also heard that the quality of medical care is comparable to that of the U.S. (maybe not India, but I have heard Costa Rica is good) I’ve also read an article recently that more Americans are choosing to go to different countries because of lack of medical insurance and or financial needs. Has anyone heard of this drastic measure, and if so can you give me the pros and cons of embarking on such a journey? I realize it is a risky situation (also, my friend is 51 years old.) but some people have had good results from traveling to foreign hospitals for health care. I need an informed opinion ASAP. Thank you.
The reason my friend cannot get medical attention here in the U.S. is because he has very serious liver problems. I realize this is a HUGE risk, but he is suffering. Basically, no doctor here will operate on him because his liver is so bad that he was told he might die if he went under anesthesia (sp). I realize this is crazy of him to do this, but he is desperate. I am trying to Google sites to locate reputable hospitals in different countries. And you’d be surprised, because many Americans are going this route.

lt’s not free for RESIDENTS, it’s free for CITIZENS. Illegals and non-subjects/citizens don’t get it. Those who do, pay heavily in the form of taxes, and then get in line for the free services. A friend of mine, has a hearing impaired child. The line for a hearing aid, is 18 months long. Open heart surgery in the UK, is 4-6 months long.

People who can afford private medical care in those states, get it. It’s definately a two class system – first class, for those with money to pay privately, and coach – for those who want the “free” benefits.
