Make sure you read the fine print. Some of the insurance companies cover preexisting conditions some don’t. Some allow for cancellation and changes for any reason most don’t. The reasons in most instances have to be medical emergencies, jury duty, unforseeable problems or death of a family member (can’t be best friend). They rarely cover need to stay for work, or issues like that. If there is a medical emergency or if you cannot go because someone is sick, you will need to see a doctor to prove that is why you could not travel. If you need to make changes while traveling or get stuck most of these insurance policies will cover changes up to a certain amount, but they reimburse you, they do not pay for this immediately. If you are traveling out of the country it is EXTREMELY important that you have travel medical insurance because most health insurances will not cover you outside of the country. This is the best money you will put up for a what if situation. It is important to have on cruises as well. If you have to be flown off the ship, that is a huge bill even if you are in Alaska and your health insurance more than likely will not cover it.
