Would you allow your 13 year old to take a 2 year SOLO sailing cruise around the world?
Question: Would you allow your 13 year old to take a 2 year SOLO sailing cruise around the world?
The family lawyer said this would be more valuable than two years of school. The courts in the Netherlands has decreed a delay to the journey until the girl can be physiologically evaluated. Both mom and dad agree with allowing her to sail. Doesn’t this come under the heading of child endangerment?

No, those parent’s are ridiculous. The youngest person to do that was 17, and he admitted that he was tracked by pirates and had to ask authorities for help. If this girl got caught by pirates she’d probably be raped and killed. Not to mention the dangers of weather.
Do we all remember the 13-year-old who tried to fly a plane and crashed it and killed herself? You should be 18+ to attempt anything like this. Maybe by then you will get some reason and more experience.

Are you kidding? Yes, teens have done it and survived, but the one I know of was tracked by freaking pirates! And male! Imagine a 13-year-old GIRL, A CHILD sailing alone being tracked by pirates! She’s too young! She can’t even legally drive a car or drink in any country!
sounds like a rich spoiled kid trying to get her way. I read the article, how many 6 year olds have a yacht, or even need one! Any parent that would knowingly put minor in a dangerous situation does not need to be a parent. If at 18 she still wants to do it, let her. If she gets attacked raped, and killed by pirates(a good chance) then its a situation she put herself in. No one made her go
