Question: i am a college student with very limited income. Should i get liability car insurance or full coverage.
if i get full coverage then it is harder for me to save money but covers the vehicle if somethiing happens. If i get liability it is easier for me to save money but if the car gets wrecked i am screwed??? What should i do?

if you are making payments on the car, you have to have full coverage on it. Liability will save you money, but be carefull how you drive. It’s best just to have full coverage.

then buy a cheap and cheerful car suitable and fit for a student. If the car was to get wrecked you’d be screwed just the same as the premium would increase a lot so you’d get the same result.
Easier to get a cheap car and NOT claim, ever.

Always carry liability……….ALWAYS or you could be personally held responsible for any material or bodily damage your accident might cause.

Collision is optional “BUT”…. if your car is totaled you are SOL for a car. Even if it’s covered with $ 500 deductible or more you’ll find that they’ll quickly “total out” an older car because they’re too expensive to fix so at best you’ll only get “book value” minus your deductible for your car. You’ll have to weigh the cost per 6 month collision premium against your ability to survive finding a new car to replace the one you just lost.

Collision won’t guarantee a car just like the one you have especially if it’s a nice one for the year and model you’re driving. Also they won’t care if you have add-ons or extras on your car. It’s just for an average car same year same make/model.

If you get sued for personal damages and don’t have liability it can ruin your life financially though. Get coverage before you drive a car. Everyone loves to sue people now for anything and everything.

As a college student, your rates are going to be higher than someone who’s older. You’re more likely to have a claim.

And likely, you won’t be able to afford to replace the car, if it’s a total loss.

But please don’t assume that “full coverage” means you’re fully covered. Your liabiltiy, has a LIMIT on it. And if you go for minimum liability, you get minimum coverage – it’s very, very easy to cause more than $ 10,000 of damage to a car, or more than $ 15,000 of injury. And as a college student, you’re actually putting future wages at risk – they’ll be HAPPY to wait until after you graduate and start earning money, to collect the difference between your low levels of insurance, and the damages you did (plus interest, court costs, and legal fees).

IF you can’t afford at least $ 50/100/100 liability limits, you can’t afford to own your own car right now.

What is the value of your car?
In most cases if the value is less than $ 2500 then there is no point in getting full coverage.
If the value is more than $ 2500 then get the full coverage but have a high deductible (like $ 1000), that way your premium will be less.

well if its an old car i would get liability.and if you get in a wreck make sure its someone elses fault so it will pay for your repairs.

it depends on what you’re cars Worth when i had an older car just liability was fine I also added personal injury protections so I’m covered if I get hurt or hurt someone in an accident but now I have a new car and full coverage makes more sense

1) If the car gets totaled will I have money to buy a new one?
2) If not, then can I live without one until I can afford a new one?

get full car insurance. you can not predict if someone is going to hit you..and then what? car damage is so expensive to repair..it will be worth your peace of mind..i got into a minor wreck..with minor damage..and it still added up to over 2000 dollars..but i had full coverage..so i was alright
