Question: The best cruise ship to go for Alaska this summer?
My family of 4 is planning to go on an Alaskan cruise vacation. Which cruise ship isn’t too expensive, but also is ranked well. I was considering Princess or Celebrity X. I’m really not sure.

any carnival cruise ship will do. i have had fantastic experiences with carnival. and the crab cakes are great [:
( yes i have been to alaska through carnival ) ( best cruise EVER!!!!! ) – im 16 male. and the tickets are sold by rooms so generally two people per room and anywhere from 800 to 1200 dollars per room depending on what level you would like to be on.

my best friend’s family went on a princess cruise to alaska and they LOVED it.
like they have been on all the rccl cruises with us, but that was still their
most favorite cruise!

Everyone has their favorites and may not necessarily even be Princess or Celebrity. We prefer Norwegian Cruise Lines, the Pearl to be exact. She is currently cruising in Alaska with one day dedicated to Glacier Bay.

The best way to know for sure is to check out their web sites, see what attracts you. Also check out http://www.cruisecritic.com where you can register (free) and read the reviews – by pros and by individuals who have sailed on them.

I would advise that you be careful. Don’t overload your activities list, regardless of which cruise line, so much that you don’t get to enjoy how beautiful Alaska truly is. We saw more on our days at sea then we ever did on an excursion. Humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, otters, eagles, bears, and mountain goats. You could even turn it into a learning experience for the family and find out before your trip about the wildlife you might see along the way.

Regardless of which cruise line you choose, Alaska itself is always beautiful and breathtaking. If you get a chance, check out Mendenhall Glacier (Juneau) either by bus taking you there or helicopter. Also check out the White Pass Rail Way in Skagway. It’s a 3 – 3 1/2 hour journey by rail that takes you up to the high peaks and to the U.S./Canadian border. Quite beautiful as well.

I have traveled on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Either is excellent, but I prefer Royal Caribbean over the two. Carnival has a lot of rambunctious kids and drunks on the ship, where as Royal Caribbean is more laid back and relaxing and private.

I went with Princess last summer and really enjoyed it. They have lots of things to do on the ship both organized activities, like dance classes, cooking, pottery, etc. and things you can do on your own like visit the casino, shop, go swimming, spa, gym. The crew is also really friendly. Your room steward knows you by name and if you have kids the waiters perform magic tricks and sing for special occasions. The Alaskan scenery is beautiful and there are lots of places on the ship to view it. Whale watching was also really exciting and they have an onboard wildlife expert to tell you where to look or answer questions. They take plenty of pictures for you while you’re on the cruise and also have discounts for the next time you travel with them.
