Why do people always feel better if they can receive medical treatment in their home country?
Question: Why do people always feel better if they can receive medical treatment in their home country?
I sell international medical to expatriates living in China and the conversation always comes up to the “emergency evacuation” cover and about how they want it to allow them to chose where they are medivaced to.
I try to explain how if you are from say Australia, it’s a friggin 12 hour flight or more and you will die on the way and that 9 times out of 10 they would send you to Hong Kong or Singapore which have great world class facilities and they know they do but they still cling to going home / risking death to be treated at home.
What is the big pull? I see that logically they understand what I’m saying, yet they still impulse buy the way over-priced insurance that says it will evacuate them to a place of their choosing. Please give me your thoughts?

Familiarity, gives a person reassurance.*
I think that people feel more comfortable with their own kind of people, language, culture. Maybe they are disabled and need special treatment from a language expert. Particulary if female, you may like your lady doctor.
However i think its down to people being reassured with the person they know in the security of their own country and not being stranded in a place they dont know. Most of us like a routine and that includes being with people we know and trust.
