How do I go about finding hotels in a good, family-friendly section of San Francisco?
Question: How do I go about finding hotels in a good, family-friendly section of San Francisco?
What are the bad areas of town that I should avoid?
My father in law is receiving a posthumous award in Santa Rosa. The entire family is flying out there. If San Francisco isn’t a good place to stay, is there somewhere closer to the Redwoods that would be better?
(san francisco family hotels)

things aren’t as bad anymore…columbus street has one of my favorite hotels..the columbus inn
and also the street right before the entrance of Chinatown has an affordable and beautiful hotel…near a swiss chocolate shop!just the Tenderloin and some parts of Mission are not very family friendly-Noe Valley is beautiful…BUT pricey the thing about S.F. is you can be in a great section and round a corner and people are asking if you need clean needles or a hooker
Avoid the Mission , tenderloin and Castro districts.
Nikko Hotel is one of my favorites, in Japantown area. The Drake is another nice hotel.
Watch out for the aggressive bums AND drug dealers, they’re everywhere and won’t hesitate to approach children!!!
Go to Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf, Nob Hill, those are touristy areas. Also Alcatraz and Angel Island are good places to take the fam.
SF is turning into crap though, watch out.
Stay in Sonoma or Marin counties– you’ll get better hotel choices and prices and you won’t be stuck in the middle of the city. You can then just drive in and back out when you’re done.
