I ahve a Evinrude 80 outboard boat engine and it is having some problems?
Question: I ahve a Evinrude 80 outboard boat engine and it is having some problems?
So I have an old Evinrude 80 outboard engine and I can’t get it to run. I checked the fuel delivery and it seems to function, and the plugs are less than perfect, but they work.
the electric starter runs turns the engine over and then the engine stops. I can’t get it to run for more than a second. We tried starting it with some starter fluid and it ran with a continuous spray of starter fluid. When the other person stopped spraying it the engine would run for 3 seconds tops and then it would just stop.
What could be the problem?
boat delivery

What is the condition of the fuel you are using? Has it been stored a long time without stabilizer? As long as you are getting spark and fuel delivery I would think it may be the fuel itself.
It’s deffinately a fuel problem. First remove the gas line from the fuel pump. Thats the thing with a black plastic cover with a screw in the middle. Then pump your primer ball and make sure gas is going thru the gas line. Next, hold your thumb over the gas line and pump the primer ball and look for leaks anywhere in that line. Next replace the main gas line and do the same with the line going to the main carb. Next replace that gas line and pull the plugs from the carb bowls and pump the primer ball. Check the condition of the gas that comes out. If it is at all funky, rebuild the carbs. Oh and make sure you are using new clean gas with the right oil mixture.
