Lou ran the shop from the late 40′s all the way up until the 1990′s. Lou was a staple of The Lower East Side. One of the most recognized businessmen of his day. He was assisted in running “Bettinger’s Luggage” from the 1970′s on by his sisters, manager aunt Dottie (short for Dorothy) and bookeeper aunt Rae. My mother GLORIA BETTINGER and I, sisters MARCI AND SANDRA and brother DAN and all worked at the store. My niece VANESSA also worked at BETTINGER’S.
