in fact all the hotel’s in downtown boston are close to the t. i cant think of one that’s not. the green line and and the back bay depot are all handy and close to most of the hotel’s down there. just pick a hotel.
None of the hotels mentioned by the above Answerers is anywhere near to economy.
There is an Economy Inn in Malden, served by two bus lines that go to Orange Line subway stations. There is a Red Roof Inn near Mishawum Station (Purple line Commuter Rail) but only 3 trains a day each way stop at Mishawum. All the trains stop at Anderson station, about 1km (2/3 mile) away.
There is a Comfort Inn and a Hampton Inn at Crosstown near the B.U. Medical Centre in the South End. about a 7 minute walk to the Silver Line and also served by busses to the Red Line subway.
If you change your mind about not staying in the downtown area there are 5 moderate (comparatively) European-style hotels that I know of: The Shawmut Inn (near North Station),
The Buckminster (right at Kenmore Square), The Milner (near Park Square, The Copley Inn (near Back Bay Station) and the Chandler Inn (near the Centre for the Arts). The last attracts a basically gay clientele.
Have you checked bed and breakfasts and city inns??
