Top 25 schools in the county of San Diego, California – 2006
0quality of the school is one of the most important factors parents consider when determining where to buy a house, condominium or town house. In the past it was difficult to assess the quality of the schools are examined, as no uniform standards for evaluation between states and sometimes between counties of a state. However, federal legislation such as No Child Left Behind (adopted in 2002) tried to remedy this situation. But before 2002, contains some states the need for greater coherence and accountability in their schools. For example, in 1999 the legislature in California is the California Public Schools Accountability Act (PsaA). Among many other requirements, the academic performance metric PsaA was as Academic Performance Index (API) known.
The API was developed to meet the academic performance and to measure the growth of schools. The API is a numeric value that is reported by a low range of 200 to a high of 1000. Schools in California are expected to reach a score of 800 or more. The API score is investigated on a two-year cycle. This first year is considered the base API score and the second year is considered the growth API score. To determine whether a school has improved compared to pervious years, only the base score against the partition of growth.
In California, the API is based on data from a variety of tests administered at different levels calculated. These tests cover a wide range of scientific subjects such as English, writing, mathematics, history, social science, language arts, science and general knowledge. The results of individual tests are combined and weighted to form the annual API score for a school, district and community. These tests are administered each year and results are reported in the API in late August or early September each year.
