Hi there,

I will be doing quite a bit of traveling between US and Canada by air, and international flights out of the US.

I understand that backpack style laptop bags were banned earlier this year as a carry-on item. I am wonder has this changed? Thank you very much.

I don’t know what ban you are referring to. I’ve made 7 trips in the last 12 months and always take a small back pack with my laptop in it. You have to take it out for the screeners but they don’t care about it on the plane.

Question: what is better for a 5 month trek/tour city/rural around SE asia, a backpack or a rolling luggage?
I’ve been around SE asia before backpacking it years ago. Seems like the new thing is to use something like eagle creek ORV trunk (rolling suitcase) which was given as a gift. Travel will include bouncing around from city/city, buses, trains, planes, taxi. Won’t be doing any hardcore trekking this time. Any suggestions? Thanks

Question: Is my backpack for travelling europe to big?
I have an eagle creek backpack that seems to be the perfect size, however, it has a detachable day pack on it that, when it is attached to the main pack, it looks a little obnoxious because it extends pretty far from my body. Are these common for backpackers in europe, or should i leave it behind and opt for a day pack that i sling across my body, or just sling the currunt one in front of my body?

How many days are you going for? I moved to the Czech Rep. with a a back pack the size of yours without the day pack addition. I travelled for three months prior to that and believe me, the adage: “bring half the clothes and twice the money” is so, so very true. You can wash things by hand and you will most likely realize that wearing the same clothes for a couple of days in a row isn’t some crime against humanity. Good luck.
