From the supplier: The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), if approved, will tremendously benefit the US insurance industry by opening up the Mexican insurance market. At .6 billion, the overall Mexican market is small when compared with the US, but premiums per capita is a healthy .37 and there is room for growth. NAFTA will provide the US insurance industry, which traditionally has shunned foreign operations, with the opportunity to expand internationally.

From the supplier: Sites on the World Wide Web and other forms of electronic business cards have been established by several dozen health insurance plans. However, the setting of realist goals and the cost of gathering and updating data for Web sites are two of the major barriers. Aetna Health Plans of Hartford, CT, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts are among those insurers with Web sites, along with Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp and others.

From the supplier: Oregon will begin three pilot programs to combine group health insurance with the medical portions of workers’ compensation insurance by the end of 1993, or in early 1994. Funded by a #336,000 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant, the program will open coverage to both the health insurance and workers’ compensation insurance industries. The pilot programs will test improvements in providing greater access to medical services and improving cost effectiveness, quality of care and adversarial actions. A diversity of public, private, union, non-union, large and small groups will participate in the programs.
