the Internet age is ruining the game of chess?
0Some would say that the invention of the Internet has absolutely wonderful when it comes to chess, because it has given us instant access to everything from news and information about the game, with products, clubs and more the ability to play online to play at any time of day or night. The problem is that with all these advances, cheating in the game has become much easier and sadly, much more frequently.
Recently, many of the chess world elite of fraud while playing a game and while in a place that would have been an absurd accusation, were accused in these days it is not only a good possibility but a reality that is all too common. How is that possible? Thanks to the technology of course! It seems that the little gadgets that we all love her comfortable and discreet size and almost ability to register online with us, no matter where we have also made it possible for us to help with our move, with no one the wiser, because the sophisticated chess programs on the market.
The reality this is not just that people cheat, but it also opens up a whole new element of dishonesty to the game, that was not there in the past. A worthy opponent is now in danger of wrongly placed in question, and for just a tough opponent, qualifying accused on the game! As the winner of a competition now comes with the additional possibility of the center of a smear campaign, because more and more people lose confidence in others and in the game. And since this is a relatively new development and one that is not very easy to investigate, let alone to confirm because it is taking away some of the elegance of the game and brings it to a whole new and less desirable level.
A perfect example is the recent Aeroflot Open match between Russia and Azerbaijan Igor Kurnosov Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Kurnosov’s quick win was the result of alleged fraud, although the referee found nothing on the winner, but a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. This situation would never, before the invention of the Internet and wireless devices have occurred. A winner would have been praised for its ability and do not steal moves from one Internet site accused of hiding in his pocket!
That does not change that probably many of us love the sport of chess and it will certainly not make the game, obsolete thanks to those who love and play it at home and with friends, but it is and will continue to have an effect on competitive Chess, as it is seen and the way the tournaments of the World Chess Federation are treated. It may even deter people from wanting to compete at the position level which is an absolute disgrace, especially given the fact that chess has had only previously recognized finally by the International Olympic Committee as a sport in 1999.
