Question: Medical Insurance for a returning American Senior Citizen?
I am trying to ascertain whether my grandmother qualifies for any form of medical insurance plan that would provide comprehensive coverage.

She was born in the state of Michigan, in 1927. She is 82 years of age, had a valid United States Passport despite not living in any of the states until recently. She is able to reapply/renew her passport should this be necessary, and is in possession of her US birth certificate. As she was born in America, she is free to return whenever she pleases and does not have to leave.

In view of her husband’s recent death, she intends to travel to the States to live alongside her sister and two daughters until she comes to pass away – there is no longer any reason for her to live in Europe.

Does anyone know whether insuring her is possible?

We have succeeded in getting her travel insurance insofar, as aside from a mild case of thrombosis several years back and for which she takes daily medication, she is very good health and has no other pre-existing conditions.

You’d have to speak to a family insurance provider for that information.
At her age, she would be considered a risk. Even if she has had a
good health record. You might check with the local county agency
for Aging/Disabilities and see if one of their clerks can point you in
the right direction if they can’t help you. If she is low income, she
would qualify for Medicaid through the state. She can apply for
Medicare and see what it would cost her at her elderly age. There is
a national number you can google for. Between these two agencies
you are sure to find the help you seek. And often a person can
qualify for both sources to help. Medicare often is a back up to
Medicaid coverage. I have been fortunate to be covered by both.
