Question: My younger brother is treated like a king.?
Here’s the story.

I just turned 19, I’m still living at home (actually moving out this weekend with my girlfriend to a little house on Gabriola Island) I finished highschool and I’m going into my third year of university this fall. My brother is 15 and he’s super annoying, always has been.

We both live with my mom, and she treats him way differently than me, I’m not complaining, but I just think it’s very unhealthy for him and am looking for other opinions.

My brother is treated like a king, but my mom will deny it all day long. He’s brought breakfast in bed every morning and he’s never walked/taken the bus to school in his whole entire life literally (its about a 20 minute walk). My mom drives him to school EVERY day, and if she has to work then I have to drive him. When I was a kid (same school) I had to walk everyday, no biggie.

I’ve been taking out the garbage, doing my own laundry, mowing the lawn since I was in grade 8, things my brother would never do, even if my mom offered to pay him.

I think this kind of treatment affects him very negatively, he’s 15 now going into grade 10 and he still sucks his thumb and has a blanket, he’s a very strange kid. He tries to put on a big show for company, he tells everyone he’s going to be a boxer/psychiatrist. He constantly tells me he’s gonna beat me up as soon as he’s done his boxing lessons. And says things like english is a waste of time he’s going to be a doctor BALHBLAHBLAH (I’m going to school to be a journalist) (My mom bought him a $ 200 boxing bag he still hasn’t set up, and gave him the money to go to lessons which he wasted on who knows what.) This all gets pretty old, I punched him in the face one day when he was being really annoying, but nothing’s really changed aside from my mom likes me even less now.

I buy everything for myself down to my own toothpaste, and have been paying for everything since I graduated, but everything I get, my brother gets it paid for. I save up for an XBOX, my brother whines at my mom until he gets one, my XBOX breaks I’m out of luck, my brother’s XBOX breaks, my mom runs out to the store and buys him a new one the VERY next day.

It seems like someone has to make an investment in him before he will ever get off his ass. The other day he wanted to go down to the river with his friends and he needed a boat, my mom gave him $ 50 to buy a boat from Canadian Tire, and he brought it home and it wasn’t good enough, so my mom went out and bought him a $ 100 boat to go to the river for one day with his friends and made me take back $ 50 boat for him.

I think that my mom thinks giving him what he wants is just easier than listening to him whine when he doesn’t get it.

He wants to skateboard now, (I used to skate when i was his age) but he won’t start until my mom builds a halfpipe in the backyard which they are starting on once he’s out of school for this summer. Soooo annoying.

He doesnt have any chores of his own, infact my mom hires a housekeeper who cleans every room in the house, (aside from my room because I refuse to let anyone clean my room for me, and like my privacy) and then my mom has the AUDACITY to say to me that she treats my brother better than me because he’s very clean, SHE makes an example of his room which the HOUSEKEEPER cleans every wednesday.

What makes this worse is that my brother is really cruel ((wordwise) to me, his friends, and my mom. My mom is obviously a widow and she’s been dating a couple guys, I don’t like them,, but my brother hates them, he constantly tells my mom that she’s “fucked up” and shoudln’t be dating anyone, he tells her that the only reason he wants her around is to drive him to school and not talk to him or his friends (his friends who he brings over to our relatively small house in the dozens). I constantly have to kick his friends out of the house cause they destroy the place and are always sleeping over here when my mom is at work and can’t do anything about it. I even had to get physical with one of his bigger friends before he would leave, and he called the cops on me (nothing happened), (kid’s a pussy)

Anyways I’m pretty much at the end of my time at home, I just can’t stand taking back seat to this douhebag who can’t do anything for himself (nevermind the family,) and I’m getting a little bit to old to be still living at home (although I would like to keep living here if he wasn’t in the picture)

I guess my question is:

is what my mom doing wrong? and why does she treat him so differently? Does yahoo answers think this is healthy enviroment for my brother OR even me to be a part of?
