What is the best way to tour China if I don’t speak the language.?

5

Question: What is the best way to tour China if I don’t speak the language.?
I want to go visit China this summer but can’t decide what the best way to tour China is. I have friends in both Shanghai and Nanjing I would like to hang out with so I don’t want to be restrained to have to be constantly on a “tour package” schedule when I get to these cities. Is there anything like a “free tour” where they just drop you off and you meet your tour group at a given time?

Any suggestions?

if i can do it in the country where i barely speak the language you can do it too.
