World Mental Health Day sponsored by the World Health Organisation (WHO), is designed to educate the public about mental health issues. This special day promotes more open discussion about mental disorders, as well as investments in prevention and treatment. The difference in the treatment of mental, neurological and substance-related disorders is a daunting |? Especially in poor countries.

Mercy Ships is a global charity that operates the worldâ? the largest hospital ship non-governmental organizations, the Africa Mercy, health care, offer some of the world class worldâ? the poorest countries. The organization has a mental health attempt under way to bridge the gap to treatment by educating people in West Africa.

Mental health is as the way we think, feel and act as we cope with life defined. The Mercy Ships Mental Health Program aims to restore hope and healing by providing basic counseling skills for health workers, religious leaders, teachers, social workers, prisons officers and many other community leaders. Teaching these skills increases the availability of mental health resources and the problems of disease, epilepsy and mental trauma.

Dr. Lyn Westman, program administrator, spends most of his time in education and coaching church leaders in the countries served by Mercy Ships. Mental health is a topic that rarely in the Third World is discussed. Teachings of Dr. Westman is extremely useful and hard to find locally.

in Togo, the mental health team organized a five-day camp for orphans and abused children. Before camp began, a training day was organized to provide an overview of the program for parents, teachers and carers.

Under the direction of Dr. Westermann, 31 children aged 9-15, for a week without worries on the campus of the institution PROSPERITY The private, Christian school near Lome. All children who participated in the camp were either orphaned, abused or single parents.
