I honestly have zero experience with tegus. I can say however that some Savs are nice and some are mean. Some Savs appear to be the sweetest things…..usually it’s entirely luck of the draw and/or valiant attempts at “taming”. Imprinting docileness is easier with “newborns” than adults. I don’t recommend Savs unless you have a lot of experience in reptiles and are really comitted toward owning one at keeping it at optimal health (should be the goal of any pet really….but monitors especially).
Ackies, however are amost always really “tame”. Ackies are definately my # 1 recommendation to 1st time monitor owners. Their price tag may initailly be larger, but it’s worth it…….you get what you pay for.
I’ll star this question and VARANID will undoubtedly come and save the day.

Two beardies and a uro do not prepare you for a sav. Do more research on the tegu and check out ackies if you really want a monitor.
EDIT: A little more detail than what I put in my original answer. I will reiterate that you should avoid the sav and think about the tegu or ackies.
An ig, though also not a beginner reptile, is nothing like a savannah monitor, disposition, diet and husbandry are all different, though both large lizards a sav will do much more damage than an ig. Igs lean towards “flight” when the “fight or flight” kicks in, whereas savs are bloodthirsty little monsters and will fight; basically an ig will damage you trying to escape while a sav will rip and tear into you so that you will leave it be. Ornery savs will rip and tear (and poop! these guys will defecate all over you as a defense mechanism!!) everytime you get near, no matter the reason, and sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw that you get a nasty-tempered sav and nothing you do will change that. You state that you used to have an iguana, out of curiosity what happened to it? They live two decades with good care.
I looked through your question history and discovered that you’ve only had your uro about two months. Watching a friend’s monitor does not prepare you for monitor ownership. These guys are a definite challenge. Large lizards are a unique challenge, and one that I undertake on a daily basis with my own collection and my foster animals. Continue to do your research, but with a word of warning ~ most monitor care you find online is garbage. Those videos on YouTube of “tame” savs are misleading. Monitors grow quickly and that cute little beast you buy at the pet store all too quickly turns into a complete monster requiring daily food, a huge enclosure and can be a pure bloody pain. Start with ackies or the tegu.
JP Labs launches Nano-Indis (TM), revolutionary new auto-read-indicators to monitor the shelf life, sterilization, and toxic substances
0Middlesex, NJ (openPR) 3 October 2010
Affordable and accurate nano-Indis is by applying a layer of etching on a metal-plastic film produced printed with an opaque message (fresh) above and a (not) on the bottom that are not seen can. A metallized plastic film typically has a 10 nm thick layer of aluminum oxide and a layer of 2 nm. If these nano-materials are destroyed, a combined message, â? ????, FRESH demonstrated not suddenly after a predetermined time through the video and figure 1.
selecting the right caustic, JP Laboratories has a variety of self-explanatory Nano-Indis developed. They can be used to monitor (1) if the self-expiring badges for visitors and employees, retail labels, mailing labels and security, and parking tickets, trains, coaches and sports events, (2) temperature cooking in the microwave and ready-to -eat, such as military meals, (3) replace durability, quality and the expiration dates of use by food and medicines (4) freezing of fresh blood and production of vaccines, (5) The thawing of frozen meat, fish, vegetables and ice, (6) exposure to electronics and dehydrated foods humidity / moisture, (7) sterilization of medical supplies by steam, ethylene oxide, plasma, hydrogen peroxide and dry heat, (8) toxins, chemicals such as chlorine and ethylene oxide and ionizing radiation (9), such as gamma / X-ray. Nano-TTI (time-temperature indicators) can be used as package / tape by producers of perishable goods, shippers, warehouses and supermarkets / shops are used to monitor the quality of perishable goods, but not open boxes or crates. Most of these devices are also in a linear motion limit for the surveillance and RFID for remote monitoring of asset quality and at the same time.
Nano-Indis have a rare combination of the most sought-after objects. They are precise, self-reading, 100% irreversible, economic and inviolable. Non-Nano-indicators are confusing because they change colors gradually require color reference cards and notes, and subject to interpretation. Nano-Indis are fundamentally and functionally different from those available today and will gradually change color indicators obsolete.
