Can traffic officers know whether or not you have prior tickets when they pull you over?
1Question: Can traffic officers know whether or not you have prior tickets when they pull you over?
When a traffic officer pulls someone over, they will often ask whether or not you have any previous tickets over the past few years. I know that they can tell whether or not your license is valid when they check it at their computers in their police cars. But would they have the information to tell whether or not you have any previous traffic tickets? In other words, if you received a traffic ticket in the past year, and you deny it when they ask you about previous tickets, would they be able to know if you’re lying? Also, if you state that you have a clean record, will that decrease the chances that the officer will issue you a ticket?

LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) has records tied both to your driver’s license #, and the license # of the car you’re driving. It will show any tickets issued to you, and any incidents that that car was involved in. And they can get records from other states, too.
In other words – you can’t lie your way out of it. Tell the truth when asked, and tell the whole truth.
