Nurse, Turned parts Extraordinary flight training school pilot-owners /
0a recent Sunday afternoon, this writer with a successful woman business owner, whose flight instruction and general aviation business is physically located at John Wayne Airport in Orange County California caught. But how did Evelyn A. Carlson, an instructor in Nursing at St. John College of Cleveland, Ohio, turns out to be a partner in a Learn-to-business on the west coast and fly to a specific driver. Here is the story.
As an interim step, Carlson began both maintenance and flight training as a Teacher Assistant in two different departments at Kent State University, think of a technology (Flying was teaching). Lyn pointed out that these two educational initiatives are not so dissimilar as they seem at first glance. Of course the data itself was different, but not the process. They had both scientific and technical aspects, each of which involved both handling equipment and the time required immediate decisions.
Of course, as we age and experience indicate a variety of different living conditions, a series of unexpected choices. Just ask Lyn Carlson if that happened. In addition, several chapters take in our lives before the age of 50 years, while other parts of our lives develop later.
On the way, Lyn served in the Peace Corps in Nyeri, Kenya, where she taught nursing. In addition, during Graduate School Carlson received a National Institute of Health full scholarship and living expenses paid. In 1974 she joined Lyn MSN from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. After completing her Masters she initially began teaching nursing at the baccalaureate level. But then, his love for flying and are worn over his diploma, to teach him, so flying in Kent, Ohio, also. At this time Lyn was 35 years.
Over the next four years, Lyn arrived at the airport in the early morning hours when it was the flight instructor from 7 to clock noon. Then she would nurse to teach in the afternoon. Finally, they would at the School of Technology building on campus to bring the end of the day as an Assistant Professor of Technology, where they are taught in the school grounds today until 9 or 10 hours. What do you plan these dedicated teacher and flight instructor kept in those days.
As a pilot, she joined the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) in 1979 as member # 006 905 147. In 1981 Lyn won the Amelia Earhart instead of finishing first place in one of the events of the National Association Inter Flying meeting, at the University of North Dakota. In 1982, Carlson was already listed in Who’s Who of American Women.
In his case, the circumstances leading to Lyn California “again, where it resulted from” walked back from the starting point. Due to the deteriorating health of their grandparents, who occupies a special place in his heart, Lyn, she returned to the Golden State to spend time with them and help them take care of. began back in California, Carlson also redistributed and ultimately wound up as California’s Chief Flight Instructor at Sunrise Aviation in Santa Ana. So she stayed in Southern California, where his family had long ties are identified, it again four generations.
After joining the team at Sunrise as partner and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Lyn helped to develop FAA approved flight training programs, which authorized the creation of floor plans and during the flight, including training and get them by the FAA. She also supervised the training of more than 25 other instructors given. As Chief Instructor, she was ultimately responsible for the certification of all student records for accuracy and compliance. She did her flight training and was responsible for the phase controls.
Of course, Carlson also has a strong influence on the growth of air traffic at dawn from two small single-engine aircraft at the beginning of its 32 aircraft plus 25 flight instructors today. Raised in the home in Redwood City, California, spent every summer in Newport Beach Lyn. Like their parents, they also at UCLA, where she met her Bachelor of Nursing.
In his late 40s, Lyn has flown solo across the Atlantic in a Rockwell 114 from El Monte, California to Guernsey, Channel Islands via Lakeland, Florida (where they stopped in the tank) Gander, Newfoundland and Santa Maria in the Azores. Why had Carlson taken such bold step? As a pilot, she wanted to leave everything in his lifetime flying experience. This objective in turn made the trip inevitable.
Apparently, after his return from this adventure, she was asked, as a spokesman on the spot 99s in their area. The Ninety-Nines organization, which was founded in 1929 by 99 women pilots, existed then and now for the mutual support of its members. Not surprisingly, Amelia Earhart became the first president of one of these local groups in his region. In 1992 and 1993, Lyn continued extra motivation talks about flying alone to make across the Atlantic, including the participation in one-on-one teaching for men and women, the flight taking into account the same way.
We want to emphasize in 1995 Lyn Carlson was also nominated for the prestigious FAA National Flight Instructor of the year elected. Winning local and regional FAA that the national selection committee representing the major organizations of general aviation, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the National Business Aircraft Association included included National Association of Flight Instructors, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association, in addition to FAA officials. In fact, the entire process actually took four months. What an honor for Lyn Carlson!
In 1998, Carlson also has the additional title of Director of Education at Sunrise Aviation because her duties and responsibilities included the number of enrolled students. In addition, from 1995 until today, Lyn and the FAA computer knowledge exams administered in its field.
In addition, Lyn Carlson has had the honor to serve in each of the following skills which included: National Transportation Safety Board by third parties (in the period 1997-1998) consulted. In this case, for example, Carlson assigned to the data with a fatal accident review and a student, wrote in an official report of the party, which was included in the final wording of the accident. Then, as a flight instructor refresher AOPA Clinical Lecturer from 1997 2003, Lyn was traveling in the United States will present and discuss questions from the FAA required. Such a topic was a study in depth of 14 CFR Part 61: certification of pilots and instructors. For his part, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, a duly authorized by the FAA, which required 16 hours of flight instructor refresher courses required to renew their flight instructor certificate give someone. They continue to serve as an examiner designated driver. As such, Carlson offers pilot testing practices of the private, instrument and commercial applicants (aircraft). The review, in this case, both oral and practical flight test. The ECD position actually represents an appointment by the FAA and as such is considered a prestigious position in aviation. While the FAA does not give these tests, the staff will not allow them to do the practical test for general aviation flights. Therefore, ECD examined by the FAA for specified skills to determine who gets pilot certificates in many cases.
dedicated nurse, teacher, college professor, a flight instructor and coach Lyn Carlson is now done in their homeland back of California to do what she really loves and what all prepared by his experiences of life: to teach and to fly. Most of us do not. But for those of us in Southern California that want to live and learn to fly, Lyn Carlson and his company an excellent place to start would be in order.
After all, how Cessna used to comment on his announcement yesterday: “If I can fly, you can fly.”
