A journey first from Fitzroy estimated last three years was on would be the fourth year and had one more before the HMS Beagle to go back to England in 1836. Five years, that would transform Darwin’s way of understanding the natural history, and his masterpiece to produce years later, the grown of human thought in one of the revolutionary ideas.
The HMS Beagle finished production of nautical charts of parts of southern coast of South America, when Fitzroy briefly on an island group that has just claimed by the young Ecuadorian nation decided to stop. This stop was only a technical question of how the Galapagos Islands were only fill the last place water tanks and collect food at the famous crossing of the Pacific.
Once in the Galapagos, the HMS Beagle stayed five weeks to start, only four islands where Darwin spent very little time. Originally from the dry vegetation, disappointed Darwin’s fascination grew with each new day in Galápagos. Here he made a large collection of flora, fauna and minerals. Years later, upon closer analysis by him and other leading scientists, differences and similarities in some terrestrial bird species were evident, that until today remain as icons of evolution, and also bear his name, the Darwin finches.
In 2009, the Galapagos center of the celebrations, there are several important dates coming together: Charles Darwin’s birth 200 years, 150 years after the publication of his book “The Origin of Species,” and with 50 years of the Galapagos National Park creation.
