This week the New York Times reported a disheartening story about two of the largest retail chains. You see, instead of taking unsold items to sample sales or donating them to people in need, H&M and Wal-Mart have been throwing them out in giant trash bags. And in the case that someone may stumble on these bags and try to keep or re-sell the items, these companies have gone ahead and slashed up garments, cut off the sleeves of coats, and sliced holes in shoes so they are unwearable.

This unsettling discovery was made by graduate student Cynthia Magnus outside the back entrance of H&M on 35th street in New York City. Just a few doors down, she also found hundreds of Wal-Mart tagged items with holes made in them that were dumped by a contractor. On December 7, she spotted 20 bags of clothing outside of H&M including, “gloves with the fingers cut off, warm socks, cute patent leather Mary Jane school shoes, maybe for fourth graders, with the instep cut up with a scissor, men’s jackets, slashed across the body and the arms. The puffy fiber fill was coming out in big white cotton balls.”

The New York Times points out that one-third of the city’s population is poor, which makes this behavior not only wasteful and sad, but downright irresponsible. Wal-Mart spokeswoman, Melissa Hill, acted surprised that these items were found, claiming they typically donate all unworn merchandise to charity. When reporters went around the corner from H&M to a collections drop-off for charity organization New York Cares, spokesperson Colleen Farrell said, “We’d be glad to take unworn coats, and companies often send them to us.”

After several days of no response from H&M, the company made a statement today, promising to stop destroying the garments at the midtown Manhattan location. They said they will donate the items to charity. H&M spokeswoman Nicole Christie said, “It will not happen again,” and that the company would make sure none of the other locations would do so either. Hopefully that’s the final word. [NY Times][Huff Post]

Would you read this book?

Question: Would you read this book?
You don’t know how I cried myself to sleep every night. You don’t know how all I had left was pain. You don’t know who I’ve become. But I think everything that has happened has been for the better, because if none of this happened, I wouldn’t have come to know Nate.

I don’t really know where my story starts. Everything is just a jumbled pile of memories. I guess I should start from where I can last remember clearly.

It was May 22. I was sitting in my bedroom, reading the newspaper. I had no clock in there, but I did have a window. I could tell by looking outside that it was around 4:00AM because it was beginning to get light out. I knew I should have gotten some sleep, but it would never come. For as long as I can remember, I never could sleep.

The orphanage had been my home forever. Or at least since I was three weeks old. I had been living there for 13 years. I was the oldest girl too; many got adopted as babies.

Eventually, I was able to find sleep. It was early morning when screaming woke me. People were coming, and they wanted to adopt a child. By the time, I knew the drill. I put on my nicest clothes, even though I knew I would never be adopted.

The couple arrived an hour later. They said they were looking for a daughter around 11-15 years old. Seeing as I was the only one who fit that category, I was adopted.

It didn’t take long to gather my supplies. All I had was my toothbrush, my comb, a hair clip, and my stationary set. I put everything neatly into my old, worn suitcase and went downstairs to my new parents.

The couple signed some paperwork. Then I left with them. The man was maybe 40 years old or so. He had brownish-gray hair, brown eyes, and he needed to shave. He was also slightly overweight.
The woman was about 10, by the looks of her too. She had a small frame and a full chest. Her hair was light brown and had natural blonde highlights in it. Her eyes were brown.

I smiled weakly at the two. I knew that my face showed I was shy, nervous, anxious, and scared all at once. In a voice hardly more than a whisper, I said, “hi,” and gave a pathetic little wave.
The man took my luggage and put it in the back of his car, a fancy black Lexus. He said, “Hello River. I am Darrel Briggs, but you can call me Dad.” Not wanting to call him ‘Dad’, I made sure not to talk to him too much.

Darrel gestured towards the car door, which he had opened. “Get in,” he said. So I got in the car and buckled my seatbelt.

The woman said to me, “You’re going to love being our daughter. Oh, and I’m Melissa Briggs, but call me Mom. And remember, if you ever need anything, I’ll be sure that it gets taken care of.

She seemed nice enough, though I still didn’t want to call anybody ‘Mom’ or ‘Dad’. “Thanks, I will,” I said, as brightly as I possibly could.

Darrel drove the car away. The drive took just over an hour. Finally, we arrived at my new home.
** Thanks. The woman is supposed to be about 40. major typo. lol. thanks**
Any ideas as to what to call this? Like a title for the book?

Question: What is the best and cheapest medical insurance for my wife and I? (Please read details)?
I am a full time student (I work part time at a hotel) and she is a self employed house cleaner. We are currently paying 315.00 for both of us, but need a cheaper plan. We just need accident coverage and maternity coverage. Please provide us with any information you can. Thank you!

You probably won’t find much less expensive coverage than that, it’s not that out of line for an individual policy. Finding specific coverage is even more difficult.
There’s a problem built-in, what is an accident? You are hurt in a vehicle crash and you’re covered, but contract cancer and you’re not? Is that accident through no fault of your own? If you slip and fall in your home it’s your fault so you’re not covered.

I would suggest looking at Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna. Get an HMO or PPO with a high deductible, high out of pocket amounts. The PPO will cost more, finding an HMO with a high deductible can be difficult. Then open a non-government HSA, health savings account. This is an account that you contribute into, the money adds up over time, and is used to pay for the smaller things. You break an arm, you pay. You need major surgery, the insurance pays. This keeps costs down on both insurance and health care. Shop around, you’d be surprised at the differences in health care costs from one doctor to another. Ask a doctor exactly what you are getting for your money. The same goes for medication. Always ask a doctor about less expensive alternatives if you find a prescription is expensive. Take advantage of in-store clinics and such, they are becoming very popular, and for good reason, they are more affordable than the doctor’s office for the same care. It’s important when you’re the one paying.

Parkcity is an exciting place to visit. It’s located in Parkcity Utah. There’s a snow resort, small coffee shops, and a town center. Lots of people from around the world go there to snowboard. It’s a small town with a huge mountainside snow resort. Most people go there to have fun skiing and snowboarding. Park city is a thrilling place to visit.

The first day my cousin and I decided to go snowboarding at Park city snow resort. Once to the top we decided to race to the bottom of the mountain, first to get in line at the lift won. As soon as the path joined three other paths I fell backwards and me cousin sideways. After forty minutes of snowboarding down the mountain, we decided to go rest at the lodge instead of racing to the lift. When we arrived we got a change of clothes and headed to the café.
Because of the several lodge’s scattered all over the mountain we had a place to sit and room to relax. Inside the café was a warm fireplace, small bakery and balcony with a small fire pit. As we warmed up we ate beef stew, donuts from the bakery and drank lots and lots of hot chocolate. Later that day we met my mom and went to dinner, there, with the rest of the family we ate big plates of mashed potatoes and gravy, steak, chicken noodle soup, baked potatoes, fudge brownies, and ice cream leaving us all bloated full of hearty food.
The next day visiting the shop’s at the snow resort we saw pro snowboarder Marc Montoya who had been featured as number three in the top ten in the snowboarder magazine. Having nothing with us but what was in the store we bought a magazine and had him sign it. Now that we had every thing we needed, we went back to our hotel and packed up. Once packed we got in our cars and drove to Salt Lake City. Arriving at the airport late we rushed in gave our luggage to the front desk and met the plane to fly home.
Park city is a great vacation spot. All ages can enjoy the activities available to them. If considering a vacation, I think Park city would be a great place. I think Park city is a exciting place to visit

So you want to work on a cruise ship? Read!

Ah yes, the glamorous life. We all dream. Working on a cruise ship, one of the most glamorous jobs that you may be able to land. At least that’s what many think. I mean, after all, you have the game and the girls and parties and received all that good food. . . Well, hold the phone. News flash people. . . it is still a job. Last I looked the word in the dictionary is not accompanied by a beautiful image, so you come.

The truth is, working on a cruise ship, depending on what job you have, one of the stressful and demanding, you can land. . . (???) If you are lucky enough to get one. Think about it. You are responsible, at least in part, to the delight of many people. Remember, these people have paid a lot of money to get one of these cruises and the last thing I want is someone to spoil, their time because they are not serious about his task. . . Even if all you do is serve drinks throughout the day.

Of course, the scenery is beautiful and let’s face it, it is much better than working in an office cluttered. It is of course if you put it in the kitchen working all day. Then it can be as bad as the dining room. In addition to the local restaurant, do not expect your customers to enjoy their meal while preparing for the Queen of England. Or they do. After all, some people can be very demanding. If you used any type of work before in your life, you know it’s true.

The fact is, and I hope to make clear to work on a cruise ship, all the glamorous side, a great responsibility. And do not think the salary is Donald Trump countries. Believe me, there are many jobs that pay well and come with a lot less stress.

In the second part, I’ll go over some jobs that you expect to find on a cruise ship. In the meantime, see the link in my signature for the examination of a valuable resource that will greatly help you land that dream job.

Or nightmare, depending on what they may be.

In the first part, I wrote about it, I discussed the reality of life on a cruise ship. . . Since not all fun and games. Work will continue over Well, if you’re still with me this article that some of the many jobs that you are available on any standard of the cruise. We hope you find something that is right for you.

Let’s start with one that few people know, and yes. . . It is a real cruise ship employment. I am happy to speak with a gentleman dance host. No, this is not a grab a microphone and Guy tried, people on the dance floor. This person takes over ladies who are unaccompanied, and takes on the dance floor and dance with them. Well, how is the work of a Made in Heaven? Obviously the person who applies to this position as a charming, polite, and someone who is a woman who is not his intelligence would be seen with. In other words, guys, you can not look like Quasi Moto.

Another important task when one is a kind of competence have an instructor on board. These are people who teach anything about the art of scuba diving. For most of these items, you have some type of certification you are qualified to teach, to show. play for others, such as teaching passengers Texas Hold ‘Em, everything you need to do is show the level of skill in the game These are some of the most fun job on a cruise ship, because they give you the opportunity to interact with a large number of people.

Of course, if you are not the way to interact, there are many cruise ship jobs that you do not mingle with the passengers. One such place is in the engine room. Of course, a complete job as chief engineer, first, second or third engineer, Motorman, fitter, wiper, chief electrician, air conditioning technology, or any other jobs available in the engineering department, you need skills and show in most cases, some type of certification. But if you want to stay away from passengers, is the place to be. Nobody will know that you yourselves are.

In my next article in this series, I’ll go a little larger jobs, you can get on a cruise ship. In the meantime, check out my review under a great resource that will show you how to get these great jobs.

Until next time with more.
