Question: Round The World trip? tips please x?
Heyyy all!!!
I am planning my 1 year long world trip at the moment and would appreciate some help/opinions.
I am from Australia. Leaving around the end of the year and I know where I want to go:
All of Asia, Europe, and South America/Central America (Including the islands)
Morocco, Egypt, and somewhere else in Africa where I can do a great safari trip + get a culture shock. + Dubai and somewhere else in the Middle East (not too dangerous though).
What I’m unsure of is how long I will need in each continent and country (Keeping in mind I have to do this all in one year unfortunately – due to rtw ticket conditions). My plan is to maybe contiki it /topdeck it around Europe during the world trip then at the end after the actual rtw coming back to Europe to do all the places I missed in my contiki tour and revisit the places I didn’t have enough time in. Followed by living with some family in Serbia for a while and maybe working somewhere in Europe for a while then going to the US and working there for a bit.
Also how much do you think I will need?
> Accommodation (not wanting resorts/5 star hotels just somewhere clean, comfortable, and safe)
> Food (wanting to experience all the tastes of the world + also having the money to eat out at expensive restaurants from time to time – in places such as Paris and London)
> Tours (Contiki type tours etc)
> Extra flights, train/bus trips, taxis
> Entry fees, shows, and other amusements eg Moulin Rouge, Museums, Palaces etc
> Souvenirs (not just for myself but for friends and family too)
> Partying, drinking, clubbing, bar hopping, going to festivals etc
> Travel Insurance, visas (Including living and working ones), and other travel expenses.
Also do you think it is a good idea to send things back home as I travel (due to the amount of places I will be going with all the souvenirs, bit of shopping etc)?
I would also love to follow the sun/summer (how to I go about this) and don’t worry I plan on seeing Europe in winter after the world trip while living there too :p

Question: Need tips for a single female traveling “Round the World”?
Hi, I’m planning on traveling around the world next year and I
need to really start planning now. I’ve already contacted a travel agent (STA travel) and mapped out my ideal travel coordinates.
From California
9 Weeks through the west side of South America (Ecuador down to Argentina)
Volunteer 2-3 Weeks in Kenya
2 Weeks in Egypt
3 weeks in Greece
3 days Israel
5-7 days Jordan
Volunteer 2 Weeks Thailand
3-4 Weeks Vietnam
I’m doing this alone since none of my friends or family seems to want to. I’m a bit concerned since I’m a twenty-something female traveling alone so I just want to know what precautions I need. Should I be careful and tour some of the countries?
What budget should I save up?
I only have an Eagle Creek backpack for my whole trip and I’ve never really learned to pack light so what do I need to do to pack modestly? (sleeping bags needed?)
As you can see, I wanna learned EVERYTHING I can now.

Buy clothing that is light and airy and doesn’t really wrinkle. Try comfortable clothing, maybe jersey or linen. I don’t think that you will need a sleeping bag since your travel againt is probably going to be taking care of your sleeping arrangements. Most hostels and things have linens, So i wouldn’t worry about bringing that stuff. I would learn how to say police and help in each of the languages of the countries that you are going to be travelling to. Maybe get a multiband cell phone that will work anywhere in the world so that if you do run into trouble you can call the police in that area, also have the numbers of those countries American Embassy’s or consulates stored in the phone. I would probably save up a few thousand dollars, maybe 5 just incase anything were to happen. So if you need to book a flight out of somewhere in a hurry, you will have the money. I know personally that Greece is pretty expensive.
Be safe and always be aware of your surroundings. Always trust your gut, if something doesn’t feel right, get out of there.

Question: How is John Kerry getting round the Jones Act?
OK, so John Kerry had his new mega-yacht built in New Zealand instead of America to save money, and has Filipino crew on board because they earn less, but now it is being chartered out from Rhode Island. But I thought the Jones Act said that only American built and crewed vessels could be chartered from American ports?
How is Kerry getting around it?

The law doesn’t require they be built here and there is no crewing requirement. And it is registered in the US.
And you don’t have a full understanding of the Jones Act.

I just looked at Ryanair’s website where it seems their summer clearout sale is about to finish (3 May). We’re in the early planning stage of our trip to Europe in September and want to know if we need to lock in a Ryanair flight quickly.

They vary!! I will give you the link to this website whihc includes ryanair and easyjet…..but also others that you can check to see which are the cheapest flights and which days of a month will be the best (in a bar graph)…
Its best to buy in advance, but sometimes you get the sales….either sign up to the ryanair and easyjet and let them tell you which are the times for sales or just keep checking.

For a few years I have used insureandgo who are frequently recommended by many online agents as the cheapest, they are also quite helpful and reliable in claims cases.
I now use my bank as I have an account which offers free worldwide insurance.
