What is the shortest and safest route driving from Chicago to Sedona, Arizona for a woman?
3Question: What is the shortest and safest route driving from Chicago to Sedona, Arizona for a woman?
I am planning a drive to Sedona before year-end. I have tried mapping routes through various websites, but they all seem to be more work than necessary. Looking at an Interstate map of the U.S., it seems that I could just take 55S to 44W (in Missouri), take that to 40W (in Oklahoma) and just take that straight west through Texas, New Mexico and than Arizona. I assume hotels/motels would be available throughout if I needed to stop for the night. Has anyone driven from Chicago to Sedona? If so, what route did you follow? Did you pay any tolls? If so, how many? I am a female planning to go alone so a safe route to follow is a must! Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks to all.

You should stay a week if that is possible and plan a day trip to the Grand Canyon – 2 hours or less from Sedona. Pink Jeep tours are recommended. You’ll want to do the trolley tours in the beginning to orient yourselves to Sedona. You catch those tours downtown Sedona (on the main strip where most of the shops are). First you need to book your airfare, then your hotel. What kind of place are you interested in staying at? What is your budget? They have expensive resorts, B & Bs, timeshares, moderate hotels, etc.

How do we get to the Oak Creek trail in Sedona?
0Question: How do we get to the Oak Creek trail in Sedona?
We’ll be there on Tuesday and we’ve planned to go to the Oak Creek trail…but I can’t find a site that gives detailed directions let alone an address for our GPS. They just say “Off highway 89.”
Anyone from that area that can give us driving directions will be my hero. We’re staying at the Sedona Rouge Hotel (as a starting point for directions, if necessary).
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Heading south on I17, as you pass Flagstaff, they’ll be signs for 89A South to Sedona. This highway takes you through the Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona. There are several trailheads off the highway. The scenery is more popular the closer you get to Sedona so maybe take the 20 mile drive to Sedona making notes of the areas you’d like to hike and then backtracking to the area that you like best.
“Off highway 89″ is right. There isn’t one trailhead – just find a spot from the highway that looks nice and has parking.

hi my husband and i stayed at the Sedona Rouge. The property is right off the street after you enter into Sedona. The rooms are fairly decent but there isn’t much of a view at all. It’s located right next to a Safeway. When we walked into the room, it was dark and my husband had walked right into a spider web. That was a turn off for us, but besides that, the bed was really comfortable. There truly isn’t anything that exciting about the hotel and it is not big at all – it’s more considered a “boutique” hotel. If you are planning on spending a lot of time at the hotel, I would not recommend this property. Have you tried the Enchantment Resort? That place is absolutely gorgeous and all the rooms are actual casitas – you never have to leave the property because they have EVERYTHING that you need including one of the best spa’s in the world. We stayed there once and had a wonderful time…but since you’re asking about the Rouge, my husband and I left that property with no complaints but not a hotel we’d want to stay at again. Hope that helps.
Oh, actually we did have 1 complaint, when we arrived, we wanted to have dinner at their restaurant: Reds. the restaurant was still open for another hour but because it was so slow, they were about to not let us dine there even though there were still a couple of people in there. While we stood there and waited, the front desk agent and the Reds manager had a 5 minute conversation about whether or not they were going to let us dine there. In the end, they let us, but that also was a turn off.
If you go to www.tripadvisor.com you can type in the 2 hotels you are interested in and it will pull up reviews from actual guests and how their stay was.

Just go to hotwire.com and book your hotel through there for the city you want to stay in. As long as you have a credit card, it shouldn’t be a big deal. That’s what I did before I was 21 and stayed in a hotel on my own/with friends.
