another quick question. if you have to take a flight there? I had heard that the cruise line pays for it. is this true?

No, you stay on the ship. Never stay anywhere but on your ship. If you are late to your ship – it WILL leave without you. So make sure you’re always back on your ship when you’re supposed to be.
The cruise line pays for nothing. You can get a package deal with the airplane tickets included, but you still have to pay for it.
