I have a 2br/2ba condo in Hilton Head. It’s at a nice resort with a private beach. Right now I have it rented long term. I get $ 650/mo after management fees. Similiar units are renting for $ 750/wk for short term rentals. I’m thinking it may make more sense to do short term, but what else do I need to know to make an informed decision?
It would need to be rented for just 11 weeks a year to make what I am making now.

I think you should rent it out for short term rentals if you can really get that much more for it and there’s enough demand there to rent it out for 11 or more weeks. You would also be able to use it during the weeks it’s not rented. Or, you could use it as some kind of favor or trade with friends and family, letting them use it for a week for free.
The only concern I would have is maintenance and upkeep during the off season. Also, consider that the management of the property would take a lot of your time unless you hired a property management and rental company.

Well, everyone is different. I would have never charged my grandmother to take care of her. My grandma came to live with me when she was 87 and she died when she was 93. I never charged her a cent. Her SS checks and pension checks went into her savings account every month. When she died, my Mom, my aunt and uncle split the money three ways. But, I got something that no money could ever bye. I got to be with my grandma every day and my children got to know their great grandmother. How could you ever put a price on that? She was very much loved.
