Skiing Holidays: Your Dreams and Hopes for the Perfect Slopes
0At this time of year with the cold weather setting in, many people are turning to the sun and sea of Southern Europe, but for those who don’t mind the winter and want some fun and adventure in their holidays then skiing may just be what the doctor ordered.
For many people, ski holidays have been a regular holiday activity and for skiers, there aren’t many places they’d rather be than the Alps. Italy is now proving that it is a destination that has great value for money and with skiing routes ranging from the French border to the amazing Dolomites in the east; it is no wonder why people are flocking to Southern Europe to test out the slopes.
In an era where cheap package holidays in the sun have outsold any other kind of holidays, it would have been easy for the ski operators to reduce the level of customer service but it seems that this competition has just urged them on and the offerings are better than ever. The great nightlife and culture of Italy offers the perfect ending to day of skiing where you can dine at many of the first-class restaurants that Italy has to offer.
Many people look for cheap holidays when deciding where to go but the truth is that skiing holidays are not as expensive as some people think. There are some great deals out there at the moment and if you have never been skiing before why not have a different holiday experience and book your holiday today.
All of the mountains and destinations can be reached within a couple of hours of the nearest airport which gives you more time on the slopes. The easiest way to find the best package for you is to shop online where you can compare various deals at the click of a button.

Ski Industry Sustainable Slopes Program
0Going Green. . . This is a cliff note version of the various environmental programs ski resorts are championing as part of their Sustainable Slopes Program, which is an environmental charter for ski areas spearheaded by the National Ski Areas Association.
ski resorts use a tremendous amount of energy to run their operations — powering lifts, heating and lighting lodges, etc — and produce significant amounts of waste in the process. They also disrupt sensitive mountainside ecosystems.
The Sustainable Slopes charter helps resorts reduce their carbon footprint by targeting ways to improve their energy efficiency, encourages the purchase of electricity from renewable resources such as wind power, and other programs intended to conserve energy, and programs for reducing waste and minimizing their impact to mountain ecosystems.
Programs encouraging the use of wind power and solar power are currently generating the most attention right now, but resorts are also doing things such as recycling, waste reduction, using biodiesel to fuel vehicles and groomers, replacing old snowmaking equipment with equipment that is energy efficient and use less water to make the same amount of snow, using waste energy from snowmaking equipment to heat buildings, upgrading motors on lifts, using compost toilets in the summit and mid-mountain facilities, doing erosion control, and replanting trees.
The top 10 U. S. green ski resorts according to the Ski Area Citizens’ Coalition (SACC) include:

2. Aspen Mountain Ski Resort – Colorado
3. Buttermilk Mountain Ski Resort – Colorado
4. Sugar Bowl Ski Resort – California
5. Sundance Resort – Utah
6. Alpine Meadows Ski Area – California
7. Park City Mountain Resort – Utah
8. Bogus Basin Mountain Resort – Idaho
9. Aspen Highlands Ski Resort – Colorado

The Ski Green Guide also tracks sustainable skiing efforts by the ski industry and skiing public. It’s a site where you can learn the cleanest way of traveling to a destination, find the ski areas that are active in keeping mountainsides beautiful, and find ways of enjoying the mountains that use less of the earth’s resources.
