Most people

first trip to Hawaii from staying in a hotel high-rise in Waikiki, go to the beach, enjoy the nightlife and see all sites in group tours and shuttles. This can be great fun, but no car, you miss a lot.

Most people avoid car because traffic is a problem, and there is little parking. The island is small, but busy. Besides the three highways that cross the island, you can not call the highways, because there are no bridges on the continent, there are only two two-lane roads with low speed limits and many people trying to get other places. There is also a common belief that it left only two parking spaces on the island.

OK, what’s the problem? You are on vacation. What press? And the goal is to see things outside the tourist bustle of Waikiki. There is always a place to park along the north coast beaches. Hotels usually have a garage, you often pay a little more and they are tiny and a real adventure trying to reduce your car. But again, it’s your vacation. What is a little additional cost and adventure, what you are looking for.

Waikiki is a bit like an amusement park. It’s like Disney World without the rides, but with miles of beach. It is full of tourists and sun protection, the young half-naked with sand in your hair hang surfboards double size. There is food and entertainment and shops. It is funny but also strangely unreal. Occasionally, rap on the wall of a building of this fine-architected to ensure there is no attempt to Fiberglas question. It’s a surreal world.

If you are curious about the rest of the island and into the car, you take your time and enjoy what others can not see. Here are some possibilities:

— Circling the wild side of the island. It is a bit of a roller coaster ride on the high cliffs and rocky shores. Stop often and enjoy the natural beauty of the sea waves against the stone walls producing large wild geysers of foam foamy.

— Endlessly for hours on a beach on the north coast lay and watched the surfers fighting waves crashing on the sandy beach. Sure, you can see the surfers in Waikiki, but the waves are wild and users seem to have more courage on the north coast.

— Take a meal from a tray of shrimp shrimp truck in Kahuku outside. It is a delicious meal in a rustic setting. You need a car to get there. I can not think to stop the tour bus. There’s nothing like it in the big city.

— Enjoy a few hours of quiet Hale’iwa mop, shopping, eating chocolate, ice chips, ice creams or large hand fell from one of the funky little shops in this quaint village. Do not miss played the surfboard painter, cool jazz and blues with his family in his garage studio, if they do not produce art.

— Take a half-day stroll through the center of Waimea Valley Audubon. There are tropical plants and animals, and you can even have a dip in the pool at the base of Waimea Falls. It’s a bit like a tropical paradise you dream to be stranded from time to time. But only the north shore.

— Exchange hit a weekly meeting of Aloha Stadium. It is a huge flea market sales on the sidewalk / where to get it all Hawaiian shirts and other souvenirs for about half of what you pay for the city. Your belongings safe and the ship home. You can not do it, if you are on the bus.

— If you are homesick, you can at a fast food restaurant earnings or spend the day at Wal-Mart or the mall. There is always somewhere to park in the mall.

Oahu is an island small enough and public transport is really good. You can see many on the bus and there is much to see. But with a car, you have total control. This little list shows a small selection of possible things to do when you take control of your mobility. The key is to be an explorer. Find your own adventure. Get behind the wheel. It is vacation.
